Website not working

Hi guys
Looking for some advice about our website. As a couple of people mentioned yesterday only the homepage was working then - it was fine a day or so before that. Now when you try and go to it - www.jadeclothing.co.uk - you get a message saying user account suspended and I can't access the admin login page either. The emails we get with the email address associated with the website dont work either. any ideas anyone? By the way although I have access to the admin page so does the guy who built the website and it was him that dealt with all the setting up and domain stuff which I don't have access to.

Quick update - panic over I think. apparantly all websites are down that were built using the platform our guy used due to a hack. should be up and running again this evening.

For what it's worth Jade-clothing, although I'm sure you don't want to have to deal with it you should always have your domain (eg: jadeclothing.co.uk) hosting (the server the website is on) and the person who administrates you website with different people/companies and you should have control over each one, they should be isolated parts of your system with the domain being with yourself. It can be very overwhelming if you don't understand how servers and domains work, but it is a big issue when you're paying a single individual to handle it all for you, all it takes is for them to forget or run off and you're up shit creek without a paddle.

Looking at your issue here the issue is not a "hack", the error message you're seeing is the default page displayed by cpanel (a shared hosting management package) when an account is disabled by the hosting company, in this case probably due to non-payment.

I checked into your website and it's hosted by a company called "catalyst2" by a reseller, I assume the reseller is "the guy who built it" in which case it's 99% the chance that he has not paid his bill and that is why your website is down, I would bet money this is the case. I also went ahead and looked into the providers outages and they currently do not have an outage listed for the server which your website is on, if a server had been hacked this would have been acknowledged. You can see the outages list for the company here: http://forum.catalyst2.com/issues-and-upgrades/. If the server was hacked, why is his website (quickandsimple.co.uk) online from the same server?

I would contact "the guy who built it" and ask him to explain to you exactly what the problem is because there is absolutely no reason this error should be showing if for some magical reason the server has been hacked. I will place money on this being an issue of him not paying the bill and not having the funds available to do so. Please move your website and domain away from him, if you need any help I will be happy to offer it and I'm sure wmrcomputers can too.

Summary: your website is hosted on a server that also hosts the website of "the guy who built it". His website is online, your website is disabled due to non payment. This is not any form of "hack", it's a lack of bills being paid. Your website will remain offline until he pays the bill.

It would appear that it is actually true - the website has been hacked and reported as a phishing site, it will be up and running again soon.

The only way that would be explainable is if they 1) ran an insecure cms (was your site wordpress? joomla?) 2) didn't handle any sort of notification from their host within a reasonable time frame when the hack occurred and then 3) allowed for the host to take the site offline

Even if a website is hacked a host (assuming shared) will give chance for someone to fix the situation, no reputable host will take a site offline without any form of notice. However if you believe him I can only assume he's presented enough evidence, maybe the host he resells from doesn't follow standards :)

glad it is resolved.

He has provided evidence and it is genuine. The website guy suspended my site himself to prevent it sending thousands of malware emails out. Thanks again for all your advice Citric. I LOVE the forum :D

You should be able to access your own FTP though... In all the hosts I've used and websites I have made (myself, and I'm not so confident in my skills) I've never ever had a problem with server hacks, DDoS, malware or loss off data though. D: Probably uses a cheap option >.> Plus then also, if you host it yourself, nobody else is responsible for non-payment or anything else like that.
