Wedding Presents....Cash Gifts

As i'm permanently skint, money wedding gifts are usually on the lower end of the scale! Having said that when it's a close friend getting married I try to aim for around £50, if it's someone like a friend of a friend it's gonna be more like £20 - just enough really to cover the cost of me BEING there as bad as that sounds. But this is pretty much what we got when I got married, so it might not be just me who thinks that way :)

I've just had an idea, which I wish I'd done!

If the money is "for the honeymoon", as a guest I want it spending on the honeymoon! So...find out where they are going and give them the money in the desired foreign currency! =)
ooooh, now i do like that idea.

i know one couple are doing a road trip to france.....but the couple this weekend are also driving through europe i think.

only problem is i dont think im going to have time to get currency before i leave on saturday :(

I went to a weddign abroad recently and saw 2 great examples as money as gifts:
1) A wicker reed/tree assortment with euros crimped into flowers and adorning the reeds
2) a bucket and spade combo for the honeymood filled witha bit of sand, with £20 pound coins buried in the sand

We did the "money for the honeymoon" thing at our wedding but arranged it with the travel agent that guests were given a phone number and a special code relating to our honeymoon booking they could use to make the arrangements. They could also keep any gift anonymous to us (not to the travel agent obviously) if they wished

It seemed to work pretty well and there was no issue as to us not spending it on the honeymoon :)

2 Relative . Cost of present = cost of wedding breakfast portion + £10 x 1.8

3 Close Friend/Relative. Cost of present = cost of wedding breakfast portion + £10 x 3

Make an assessment of how much you expect the food, drink and enetertainment to be worth and stick a couple of quid on top.
I always used to give £20 - £30 as wedding with what you suggest in mind... then I realised how bloody expensive weddings are after paying for my own.... even a basic buffet at the main wedding venues is £25 per head (which is ridiculous but hey ho, you only get married twice :) )
done well there paid bit more on our wedding i still can't get over paying for the cake and i am going back three years the cakes was just over £800, kids birthday cakes are only a fiver and do me lol, I usually give £20 - £30 depending on the people involved if i went to the full do and not just evening then i could justify £50.
