Weird smell in bathrooms

There was a blockage in the shared drain, thought it was sorted but has started to return. If I'm in Stafford this weekend I may get the jet wash down there!

So, I got a proper look at the drain today. It was full, blockage under my house. The bits I can get to had a lot of rubble in, mostly like gravel but quite a few bits of pottery style debris. At first I thought a drain further up had collapsed, but some of it looks like kitchen tiles? Definite white glazed and flat, fragments up to 6" in diameter. There is someone doing work on a house a few doors further up the drain, I'm wondering if he's been disposing of stuff he shouldn't? The pisser being it's him that complained his drains weren't clearing properly!

Does he have a letter box?
If it is a 'communal' drain, then Severn Trent should attend to it.

He doesn't live there, he's done it up to rent out.

It is a communal drain but it runs under the rear of our properties, most people have built over it (causing much hassle when buying!). Apparently this makes it a me problem :(

Cleared under my house, then realised it was still blocked in the other direction. Much swearing ensued, but after I finally unblocked that side more debris came past including a fairly large piece of plasterboard! There is still silt under my house, can't clear it all but got most out. Drains now running clear, I'll check again at the weekend.

Which brings me to my next issue, holes in the brickwork around a pipe leading into my property. I found cavity wall insulation beads down there, and it ties in with where I suspect the mice gained access the other year. It would also explain why the smell was always that corner of the house, not all drains. Can I just cement it all back up?

There ended up being more, but this is some of what I removed. Not exactly my favourite job!

So I decided to fill the hole in the brickwork today. I'd left the manhole cover off while I got my tools, and when I returned a bloody big rat immediately ran into the hole! I went back into the house and made loads of noise in the wall he'd be in, and I can't hear anything now, but if I block the hole then I'll possibly have to deal with a trapped rat. But then no matter when I try to fix it I won't know for sure? Bah!

Sod it, gonna fill it anyway. A mixture of copper mesh and expanding foam should do the trick hopefully.

The farmhouse where my sister and that knobheadwankstainarseholeshitface that she lives with had rats, they got into the cavity of the house, managed get under the kitchen cupboards and were making one hell of a racket.
Knobheadwankstainarseholeshitface decided put poison down for them, They took the bait, and went back inside the cavitys. Within days the house started smelling of dead rat, obviously they couldn't get the bodies out, they had no idea whereabouts they were. Expanding foam was purchased and the holes filled. So far they haven't heard anything, keeping my fingers crossed.

Had a dead rat in the shed a couple of years ago, the stench was incredible, took a few days to find it too - fecking horrendous.

So the copper mesh and expanding foam failed, they ate it! Pulled the remains out today, is a sizeable hole:

Filled it with stainless steel mesh and concrete, not got a pic of the finished job but this was taken halfway through:
