the provy woman was the lady who came round to collect the payments on the loan you had from the provident loan company, the reason you were hiding is to avoid paying her, cos you'd spent it on luxuries like food.

Ahh the good old days:D and =D

I watched his googlewhack dvd last night. It was hilarious. I read the book ages ago. What a great story. He really has done the town proud. Lets not forget either he is southside st17 massiv. Recognize!
agreed, he should be granted the keys to the city... well town.
I believe Staffs Uni gave him and honourary degree.

I seem to remember seeing a quote somewhere alleging him to have told his mother to stop blubbering as everyone else present had worked for their degrees. :)

Hi djstaffs! Nice to have you here.

On the topic of Dave Gorman, 'The Entertainer' section of today's Newsletter is advertising his new show 'Sit down, Pedal, Pedal, Stop and Stand up' at Viccy Hall in Stoke. I've never seen one of his live shows but have seen the Googlewhack Adventure on DVD (as mentioned a few posts above), which I thought was brilliant, and i've just finished reading 'Are You Dave Gorman?'; a very funny tale of how a drunken bet can have rather dramatic consequences. Well good.

Not sure if this is the best place for this. Please move it if you need to!

www.stafforddirect.ning.com is a new site that is just beginning.

The intention is to provide a point of contact between many different groups and organisations. It is essentially a free directory for Stafford which of course will only work if people use it.

It gives people a very basic web page and also makes it possible for them to direct viewers to their own webpages.

I am in discussion with a number of different organisations about possible uses for this.

It does have a discussion forum element within it. I came to have another look at Stafford Forum,to see how you operate, and how the different forums should compliment each other.

I have put a link back to the Stafford Forum on Stafford Direct, and I think it would be useful if the forum joins and puts on a logo and perhaps an RSS feed.

My initial thoughts are that Stafford forum has a strong social function where people come to chat with friends. It also has a very flexible structure that makes it ideal for lots of different discussions. The sites are very different and will be used in different ways. I think it would be good to be able to cross refer on some discussions.

At the moment I am keeping a very light hand on Stafford Direct, to see how people want to use it , but perhaps the best way of making the best of both sites is to move towards using Stafford Direct for invited papers with comments, a bit like the Guardian comment is free.

One thing I am thinking about is trying to pull together a social media conference to look at how we can be using these kind of tools to help us explore some of the issues in town. Any interest?

would it worth while opening a sub forum for those in penkride and alike or is this just for those that are in stafford

Not everyone here lives in stafford itself, i'm sure, and stafford borough covers a wide area. I can assure you you're welcome here though, unless admin has become xenophobic over night!

Not always sure more choice will=more people. Run a sub forum may just mean those few of us who use the forum regularly will be spread out even more and so more likely interest would be lost. Possibly the best thing to do is to some how get more people here first. If we get many more then maybe a sub-forum would be an option.

Nope, this forum is for anyone who wants to take part, even if they're not from Stafford! I don't think we have enough users to warrant area-specific sub-forums, but you are free to chat about the surrounding areas (and, indeed, anywhere you like) in any of the existing forums. :)

We welcome all suggestions, though, so thanks for yours!

Admin just out of curiosity how many 'regulars' do we have, say averaging over 1 post a day?

I'd say we have a core of 20 or so, then some ocaisional posters.

EDIT: Have I lost 2 skill points today? Must have upset someone!

Well, a quick check shows that 48 unique users made at least one post in the last 7 days. :)
