What I Did This Weekend - In Pictures!

Right, well, the clock seems to be running properly now, For the last few days it has been stopping after about twenty hours - I put this down to the dentition issue that I noticed on the escapement wheel, but finally discovered what the real issue was - two of the shafts were at the opposite extremes of their positions and this, couple with a slight swash of the gears, resulted in them clashing when they were both in the closest position at the same time - the gearing made this happen every twenty or so hours and the drive to the escapement was blocked. Centralising the shafts seems to have cured it now - all is running well after a day and a half. An odd failure that I've never seen before - it probably occurred because of the way I held it to wind it up before I refitted the face and hands.
A week since the last winding and the clock is keeping excellent time - it's never been more than ten seconds off when checked on the hour. It wanders back and forth around the actual time - that'll do for me.

Watched my team beat the scousers. On TV though as I couldn't get a ticket.

Unfortunately @Glam Wolves haven't had many days like yesterday for a long, long time. It's why it's such a big deal for us fans.

:(

Incredible how everyone has all of a sudden turned in to a Wolves fan where I work. One lad, massive Man U fan for the past 5 years, all of a sudden he's declared his allegiance to Wolves. Glory hunters the lot of em!! Wonder if they'll get back under their stone once Wolves get relegated and knocked out the cup next round :D

I bought a clock. Not planned but my brother had been in Windmill antiques on Saturday morning and spotted a skeleton clock. We went back up after lunch and had a closer look at it, it was not in perfect condition but appeared to run OK. It will need a bit of TLC but all cosmetic.

Craft Supplies in Millers' Dale used to have a good selection of glass domes - or try http://www.glass-domes.co.uk/glass_domes.htm .

..or re-base it to suit one that you can get..?

When you have to lift the dome to wind it, the potential for disaster is always there.....

Is the key long enough to reach, if there was a suitable hole in the dome?

There is no hole in the dome, It will have to have the dome removed to wind it up. Not sure yet how long it will run for on a full wind ?

Perhaps a hole could be fitted?

I would suspect it's an 8-day, but try it and see how long it runs - if it's a 31 day, then winding is less of an issue..
