What's not rocking my world, sweet jesus where do you want me to start?

Lilly Allen, Scissor Sisters, Orson and The Feeling for starters. Anything bigged up by Jo Whiley, NME and Zane Lowe to follow.

Bland, bland, bland, bland..............

As for Plan B - bobbins. For the last couple of jollies to OT I have had to endure the whole album in the car and it's been farking painful.

that borderline tranny Fergie.. it's like she's taken all the worst bits of recent snoop/n.e.r.d. efforts and mixed it up with other chart friendly r&b/hip-hop clichés

:grr:

I'm not feeling this current glut of guitar groups, most of whose band names start with "The". "The Wank", "The Angst", "The Affectations", "The Sociopaths" etc etc.

For any oldsters who "can't understand why young people like all this rave and hippety hop", it's because bands what play proper instruments are peddling out the same load of old toss that was being peddled out 10/20/30/40 years ago and it starts to grate after a while.

There are some exceptions, obviously, but most of it is shit. Nuff said.

AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!! The Scissor Sisters make me want to hurl myself out of the window every single time they come on the telly. Unfortunately, as the enemy falls into the category of 'woman', she quite likes them.

Talk about gimmicks.

"Hey, I'm really camp and wear a gold-sequined, hooded jumpsuit". But enough about me, where were we?

i tell you who really pisses me off.. "…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead".. i mean, really, who the hell came up with that name?? i wouldn't care if they were the best band in the world, there is no way i would ever tell anyone i liked someone with a name like that..

The Streets are really pissing me off, too. Couldn't stand them at first, then quite liked them for a bit, but now I want to cut Skinner's tongue out with a rusty spoon. Every tune I've heard from the latest album has been nothing short of pathetically woeful. And what's with the 80s suits?

Steer clear of any band containing a member who's appeared on Love Island.

Right now I'm listening to Nightmare on Wax's latest mix compilation, My Definition. It's pretty cheeky I have to say, and would recommended it to any hip hop heads who don't mind a bit of jazz and soul mixed in...

The thing is there's an awful lot of 'new' hip hop out there which is quite poor and merely formulaic. As you says there are excpetions and there's good stuff out there in all the genres, folk just need to do a little bit of digging. Being told by twats like Whiley, Lowe and the NME that they're doing you a favour by introducing you to these bands just loves me off. It's patronising and insulting. Suggests a music listener isn't capable of discovering music or if they do they aren't discovering - and enjoying - the 'right' acts. Although it's debatable whether anything they push can be considered 'quality'.

Vice did a mint article on these idiots a while back, if I can find it I'll C&P it.

Stands down off his soap box and shuffles off to make a brew.

Couldn't agree more. That's exactly how I've felt about her for about 14 years.

Came out about two weeks ago, he did a studio album a bit back In A Space Outta Sound which was a bit average...

you're not wrong.. i'd say hip-hop suffers just as much as rock/indie from the "churning out old repetitive nonsense" disease..

yeah, but in fairness people like your good self probably aren't their target audience.. these DJs are on radio 1 - the uk's biggest and thus most mainstream radio station.. i wouldn't expect MTV to play "credible" artists, because that's not what they're there for; likewise radio 1.. for the majority of radio 1 listeners, this "brand new music" they're pushing is exactly that, and most of them probably really won't hear it unless they were introduced by these self-styled pioneers..

i also cannot abide all this emo bollox thats inundating everything at the moment, my chemical romance, etc.. its being goth for the 21st century. small spotty teenagers with stupid hair, tight jeans, make up, and self harming middle class 'i hate myself and i want to die' nobs - which makes me want to destroy them on sight.

I'm not commenting on the quality of current hip hop - that's a whole new argument. My point was that some people seem to be of the view that if a band can and do play instruments they must be good. Many of said people seem to be using that argument to justify the presence of so many wank guitar bands in the charts, and to validate their (ill informed) opinion that 'rock' is unconditionally better than pop/hip hop/dance etc.

I'll take my hip hop any way I can get it, up to a point. I draw the line at Ja Rule gravel-voicingly shouting "Luuhhhve yoooou!" over the top for instance. Jazz and soul are pretty argeeable ingredients.

Although it's a bit old now, I'm loving The Nextmen's 'Get Over It' - top Brit Hop. Feeling the Scratch Perverts and Herbaliser FabricLive mixes, too.

Got no problem with the bands (although I don't like the music) however they're not 'emo'. Never are, never will be. Emo - or emotional hardcore as it was - was a term coined in the 80s and has somehow been approrpiated by the mainstream press now (as it always does) and turned into something it never was and was never intended to be. They're essnetially pop bands, guitar pop or something like that.

But as per usual, someone somewhere needs to give it a name. I suspect Ian MacKaye and the like aren't too impressed to be lumped in with the likes of MCR, Fall Out Boy etc when emo gets a mention these days.

As for the aesthetics that come with this new wave of emo (???), enjoy Manchester city centre tomorrow. Especially by the metro. :)

I really do sound like an old man these days. FFS!
