Who stole all the insects?

Any trying to get there from the west have been intercepted and eaten by big cat Alfie The Assassin. AKA Fat Greedy B*st*rd Cat.
Not sure who's covering the North, South & Eastern corridors.

When did you last have to get dead flies off a car? Compared to forty years ago, there's hardly anything about now. It used to be absolute carnage in the summer months. I had a white motorcycle helmet and there would be bloodstains on it. Cars are a bit slipperier now, but the front number plates are still square on, yet nothing gets splattered on them like it used to.

I blame wheelie bins.

Good point, can't say that I'd noticed but now that you say.

There were millions of the bloody things splattered over the front of my car over the three weeks we spent in Italy this summer. No shortage, I can assure you.

Is the insect thing synonymous with the rise of food banks ?

I have a gnat that has been travelling with me on my car journey's in and around Staffordshire and the surrounding areas for the past week. 'He' gets very excitable when we're travelling at certain speeds and dances around the windscreen. I shall miss Trevor when he's gone.

I may have mentioned that I quite like Gnats. I once got off my bike to let one go past.

Where are they?
It also might have something to do with the fact that it is autumn.

Most insects have a rather short life span in our 'experience' of them.

Many, for example, live in a larval stage either under ground or under water, that can last for a surprisingly large amount of years - but even then not so many in 'human' years - before emerging to spend their entire two day 'life' to annoy us.

At this time of year you will find quite a lot of insects that live more than one year 'amongst us' amongst us.

Mostly they are looking for somewhere to hibernate - if you don't see them so much, it is more than likely that they have already found somewhere where you won't find them. I already know some places where butterflies have bedded down, and both bees and ladybirds have been scouting for nooks that i've noted.

They don't want you to see them, that's rather the point.

As much as i love these animals, and wish them well, if you see a wasp pootling about your dwelling place at this time of year it is because they are looking for somewhere to make your Spring a time of unspeakable terror. I would therefore advise you to kill it as soon as is possible, by all means necessary, and may God have mercy upon your soul.
