Your own electric blanket?! That sounds safe. How about your own electric kettle. Get a pot of water and add electricity.

No wonder everyone thought smoking wasn't dangerous back then!

They did take the precaution of transforming down to 12 volts.

I knew somebody whose only means of water heating in his new house was a back-boiler behind an open fire. It the summer it was a bit inconvenient to light this just for one bath and boiling lots of kettles was too slow - so he used to pass the mains current directly through the water in the bath by immersing two copper plates and monitoring the current with an ammeter - the current was regulated by altering the area of the plates that were submerged in order to avoid blowing the fuse. It worked a treat until he finally got round to fitting an immersion heater in the tank..

Do not try this at home! - or anywhere else.

Excellent - I particularly like the tennis ball ideas.

I'm loving some of these websites. I could lose days looking at all the crazy things I could make. I like the idea of copper plates to heat the bath water. With a bit of modification you could probably electroplate someone. Now that would look cool.

plate - or cute..?

You would need to rectify the supply for plating - AC would just move it back and forth.

You are correct, as I say it would take a little modification. Regardless of the electroplating, I think passing AC current through someone in a bath would definitely move them back and forth. Quite violently in fact. For a short while.

I've recently been building my own arcade style 2p pusher (AKA Penny Falls) and it got me to thinking what else have people built from their own designs etc. I initially was going to post this in the geeks and gadgets thread, but then you might have created a very different style of cake, built in wardrobes with colour changing lighting or anything really.

I've NEVER (and I literally mean NEVER) been into any form of DIY, so my acheivement of building a penny pusher has been something I am proud enough of to share. I've just got the final few bits which I hope to finish this week and then I will post pictures / videos for people to see.
I have seen this project today - and it is a very impressive method of getting the kids' pocket money back..!

That looks great. Have you won much on it yet?
No I don't know where I'm going wrong. Even when I kick it and run off with the money that drops I don't seem to be any better off ;)

That reminds me of the "Bottom" episode where Eddie goes out and mugs himself and is so chuffed that he made a fiver :D

I used to have a canary named after Eddie Hitler from Bottom. It made sense at the time. Can't remember why though.

Difficult to say as it was done a bit here and a bit there whenever I had a few hours to spare. I've actually listed it on ebay now with surprising results... 10 day auction starting at 99p, still 8 days to go and a massive 80 people keeping watch on it and it's already up to £150. I think it could be the first of many ;)
