Why a half marathon?

Presumably the idea is to include a greater number of participants and from a wider cross-section. I wonder how many full marathon runners there would be for such an event here?

Two of our nurses at St.Georges ran today, both finished 1:58:57. And 1 of them has a knee injury so she couldn't run as fast. I'd still be running round the course.

Simple answrs A. Its half the length, B. Less marshalls, volunteers, police needed, infastructur. You could of have 2nd lap, but that could take 7+ hours, roads closed ect , C. 1/2 = loads more potoential entrants :lorks: D. There has been a move over last number of years 910+) away from Mrathons, towards halfs, 10K's 5 miles, ect, more participants, E. Marathon is WAY too far for many folk,
1 hr 48 min 6 secs
One very proud 49 year old cognatively challenged old git! Who was going well for 10m, hit a miny wall, and struggled for the last 3 miles!

I was having chips after my radio interview in Co/Op, and the fat, unfit were raising feet to wabble to the finish 3 hrs after the start!

But of course they did do it!

Fantastic gone2seed! husband said he thinks he hit that same wall. A little chaffed in places but happy with his 1hr 57.

Whilst waiting for Brian Matthew on Radio 2 on Saturday morning, I heard a bit of Anneka Rice - she said that she had got a text from her sister when she finished some marathon somewhere that comprised of her finishing time and just two words - "chafed boobs"..

oh my...there really is! Made me smile when it asks for the buyer to be the first to review this item, as if! who in their right mind would admit to wearing it?

Also describes it as 'hard to find' - indeed, unlikely to be in the window of Top Shop....

Absolutely not true for almost anyone.... I have just started doing the NHS C25K (Couch To 5 kilometers) plan and really liking it:

http://www.nhs.uk/LiveWell/c25k/Pages/couch-to-5k.aspx

Its a 9 week plan for anyone that wants to get in to running, even if you've never run before in your life. There are 9 podcasts that you download and each one is basically a 30 minute track where a little voice (no jokes) tells you when to run and when to walk with a music backing track.

The details of what you actually do are HERE but week one starts with "Begin with a brisk 5-minute walk, then alternate 60 seconds of running and 90 seconds of walking, for a total of 20 minutes."

As I say, the voice on the track tells you when to run, when to walk, and gives tips and encouragement on the way round. Well worth looking into if you would like to get fit, all you need is some trainers and the commitment to stick to it.

When you get to 5k, there is an add-on to get you up to 10k.

Congrats to gon2seed, a very admirable time :) (similar to my first time running the Stafford Half). Wish I could have been there. Anyone up for Lichfield in May?! ;) I HAVE to get outside and start running again sharpish!

A third of anything can be pretty difficult to clarify so a half or a quarter would seem more appropriate

Did finish in front of the royal nursery like in the olden days?
