Windows 10 observations

First observation:
Windows 10 massive update (1511) , my pc just updated with what looks like a big service pack, everything seemed fine except my screen looked very bright so i booted up Nvidia control panel only to find it only had the 3D options in it, if this happens to you this might fix it as it did mine, go to Device Manager look under Display Adapters and you should see you display driver if you also see Intel HD Graphics right click and disable it then restart your pc, it fixed it for me.
Second observation:
On another note if you have to reset your pc and it is Windows 10 there is several options, to see them go to All settings >> Update and security >> Recover, if you need to reset your pc back to a new install so your HDD files all get wiped and your system was originally Windows 7,8 or 8.1 you wont be able to revert back to them you will be stuck with Windows 10, another thing to bare in mind is how long it takes you will need patience, at 66% you may sit for at least 30 minuets and at 99% the pc can sit for over three hours with some people reporting up to 9 hours, my personal time was around 4 hours so don't be tempted to power your pc down unless you like being stuck in a boot loop ! just leave it alone, the end result is a nice clean freshly installed operating system, there are other restore options available so check them out in the settings mentioned above.

If you have disabled the graphics then you're probably forcing windows to operate using the Microsoft Basic Display adapter driver - this is by no means a solution as you're reducing the graphics powers within.
I've had no problems with any computers or updates that you've described, but I did have an issue once on Windows 8 quite similar when NVidia did such an update. The solution for that particular setup was to uninstall the Windows updated driver for the display itself (as in the screen, not the graphics card) and then prevent that update from installing again. When I researched it at the time, it was a common problem between the NVidia latest driver that only affected certain displays. By removing the display driver (again please note NOT the graphics driver) the problem was solved without losing the graphics cards full abilities.

Hi i haven't disabled the Nvidia drivers, the only realy problem i have now is i cant use fast boot if i do then Nvidia Geforce wont boot up on startup and if i double click it to start it and then click the cross in the right corner instead of it minimizing it quits the program, so removing the option for fast boot is the only thing i have found that fixes it.

I still suspect it's possibly a similar issue. Right click desktop, display settings, display adapter properties, monitor tab.... under "Monitor type" at the top if it displays your screen make and model, try removing the driver for the screen and see if it helps.

I'm not saying this will definitely fix it, but it's worth trying with it being such a similar issue to one I found in Windows 8 regarding NVidia.

Not sure at all then mate. Another possibility is having a further poke around at settings within the GeForce configuration utility to see if there's a setting in there causing the problem. Unfortunately nothing here has NVidia graphics so I can't even play around myself to try and help you.

I tried 10, but my relatively new laptop was very sluggish after so I reverted back to 8

It is odd the settings you have access to in Geforce is very limited there is no boot with windows option, i think maybe fast boot sees the program as none essential so doesn't allow it to boot to save time although i could be wrong.

Was it a budget entry level laptop? As I've said on here quite recently, there are some laptops around at the moment that would barely manage to run XP and shouldn't have made it to the shop shelves.

If anyone misses the old Solitaire, Minesweeper etc. then let me know and I'll point you to installers that put them onto Windows 10. I know it's unlikely, but you never know.

Not particularly, it runs VM's without any issues, which my last one had problems with, just didnt seem to like Windows 10

Updated to Windows 10 on my Desktop and lost the Scan and Save to pictures facility with my Epson printer, Epson told me that it has not provided an updated driver as my Printer is too old at 8 years - nothing else wrong with the printer.
Updated my Laptop with Windows 10 and lost Genesis from Kodi, as yet I have not found a site that can tell me how to update Kodi to Windows 10 and reinstall Genesis

Oh dear, Kodi-tv stopped working today. Looks like something to do with a Genesis update. All it does is give me a message "Add-on is incompatible due to unmet dependencies Would you like to disable it on your system Y or N "
Cannot click Yes button - No button just kicks me out.
Anyone else got the same problem
Maybe I should just delete Kodi manually and reinstall

I've a laptop that's on W8.

Anyone suggest going up to 10?
...and it not being painful?

Failing that, anyone suggest a kick ass new laptop for sale someplace - at a great price, which in my eyes for what I need it for (keeping an eye on emails, browsing, some storing, not much uploading or downloading, hooked up to a printer/scanner 'an that) would be less than £300?

Sorry for the thread kidnapping.
