Wiring help - timer but not...

When I finally get my new gaff, I intend to lock my flatmates in the shed all day cos they smoke. Now this is only fair and just, I'm sure you all agree, however apparently their body heat is not always sufficient. Pussies! Now usually I'd just put a pair of electric heaters in, but unfortunately their memories are also not always sufficient.

Therefore what I require is one of those doohickies they use for outdoor smoking areas, the ones that turn things off again after a set amount of time. That way, should they for some reason forget to turn the heating off, I would not receive a shock when the leccy bills arrived.

So, to my question. What are they called? I will need one capable of running 2x2Kw heaters ideally, and also able to vary the amount of time they stay on. Probably want up to 20 mins or so.

So, where do I get this magical switch from?

Your going to need something that's capable of dealing with at least 16 amps. I can ask in CEF if they do anything next time I'm in there.

It says it'll do 16A resistive and so you should be OK with 4kW of heating. It's a bit vague about the timing possibilities, but you should be able to get something suitable out of it. Personally, I think you're being too soft with the addicts. They should be standing outside in the wind and rain...

First purchase for the new house? You just have to make sure that your supply to it is adequate. A spur off the ring main should do.

Well they have power down there, but I'm not sure how. There are plug sockets, but TBH I'd rather rewire it. Will see when I get in! And yeah, shouldn't take too long to have a smoke. But better down there than near my house!

Does that take into account the wafting-off period needed to get rid of the smell before they're let back into the house?

If they're going to be 'wafting off' then there is also a potential safety issue around the presence of a source of ignition.
