We add a really good meal at the Wolseley Arms on Friday evening.

The menu is extensive including venison, mixed fish grill, etc. and the quality of food was very good.

The beer and wine was a little expensive but it made for a nice change from town centre pubs and restaurants.

An additional bonus is that the 825 bus stops nearby and there is an hourly service in the evening coming back to Stafford.

Went here yesterday for a pre-Christmas meet with friends - my first visit so was hoping for good food. Only had a main course and coffee so can't comment extensively but my gammon was a bit poor if i'm honest. The piece of gammon was just a bit small and very thin, almost to bacon proportions which is disappointing. I can honestly say i've had better gammon (bigger, thicker, juicer piece) in Wetherspoons. Also they tried to be a little artisan with a slice of pineapple taken straight from the fruit rather than a processed one, but again it was a bit unripe, too thin and hard. Can't really fault the chips and peas though :S

The building / decor is nice enough though and the service was fine so whether I got unlucky, or chose the wrong dish.... will probably give it a second chance one day but certainly not in any rush especially after sampling the delights of the Dog & Doublet last week - see their thread for the review.

We gave been several times and always had lovely food but sometimes (Sunday lunch) it can get very busy.

URL, yes give it another try in the New Year, ....many places that usually serve good food find it challenging just before Christmas what with all the large parties that they get at this time of year, not to mention temporary staff.

I used to go there regularly, last time I was there one of the staff was eating their dinner on a table by us and was have a really good loud public bitching session about their shifts, management & colleagues with another member of staff that was supposed to be servings us, it was really uncomfortable & really turned my stomach & haven't been back since.
