Hi everyone

Does anyone know of any pet shop etc in Stafford that will take children for work experience?? My son is interested in working with animals except for farming or with cats as he is allergic to cats

Does it need to be in the town? There's also the Wildlife Rescue at Amerton Farm and the Gentleshaw place at Fletcher's outside Eccleshall.

We have tried pets at home as they usually do but apparently they have no manager and are short of staff at the moment but haven't tried fish world. Rodbaston is a bit too far out of stafford but thanks. It is a pain really this is the third time i have had to try and sort work placement for my children and instead of the school and my other two ended up in places they didn't want. I would have thought by now the schools would have had lists of the places available i have tried kennels and catteries for my middle son when he did this and none of them would take children and also graphics and printing places wouldn't either so just glad this is my last

Have you tried the vets? You may get the odd cat but I'm sure no one is going to make him go near them if says he's allergic. There is also the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.

Sorry for the bad joke

It is difficult to get work placements , I do understand that. Part of the problem is that education tends to use the same period in the year for this exercise so the demand is higher.
Also, as indicated, there are not the staff resources to monitor these young people like there used to be.
And many industries are noww actually sole traders or home workers ,individuals who work alone and therefore not appropriate

I could try some vets, what annoys me though is the schools want the children to do this but we are the ones that has to sort it all out like i said having a list of places that will take children would at least be a start. Thanks everyone

Also, most companies will be unable to find Insurance to cover under 18yr olds in the workplace.....

Walk a neighbours dog?

That way, he could experience working from home, and for himself!

You could give him a glowing write-up.

The insurance is another problem but what are we meant to do when the school are telling us to find placements. Walking a neighbors dog is ok but it has to be working hours not just a couple of hours a day, don't think the school would buy that one but thanks.
