I've been really impressed every time I've been to the Chambers. Great stuff.

Holly bush in salt is also extremely good. Never had a bad meal from there, eaten often.

Frankie and Benny's on the other hand... I've had what could be described as a maggot in a salad, not once, but twice on separate occasions. I think its was actually a caterpillar but what ever it was... it wasn't nice.

My worst experience was at No 5 (down that little alley opposite the prison). Food OK-ish but really expensive. Staff really, really nervy. There was only one other table in. A courting couple. I was there with a couple of friends. They shoved us right next to the other table upstairs and appeared to forget us. There was no music or anything and we had to whisper all evening. It was like a cross between a doctor's waiting room and a really bad B&B.
Best meal, every time and entirely beyond doubt: Earls Restaurant at the College. The food is beyond anything else we've eaten in Stafford. Last year they had Paul Gilmore in once a month and his food was, frankly, gob-smacking. The downsides: you have to book months and months ahead to get a table. You have to be there dead-on 7pm and out by about 9pm. The decor is a bit weak and if you can make it up the stairs rather than using the lift then you will definitely be one of the youngest people in the room BUT the food is stunning and brilliant value. It's cooked and served by students working with pro-chefs. If you are veggie, you need to make that clear on booking. Sometimes it is a set meal and they will happily plan alternative dishes as long as they know beforehand.

Hospital food is always an issue. Generally if you are unwell food is the last thing on your mind. The other thing you always want something at differing times to the set meal times. A quarter of hospital meals are thrown away.

Meals are often provided by private companies ! the same as cleaning !

I can't sing the praises of St.Georges staff restaurant high enough, and I don't even work there anymore! The cook there has over 40yrs experience in the trade, won't put owt rubbishy on the menu. Biggest shame tho is,you have to either work at the hospital,be a service user or visitor. It isn't really open to m-o-t-p. But the staff won't know if you don't tell them.

In the Sun on a moderately busy Saturday Lunchtime.

Two Burgers (£4.00 each) One Pint and a glass of water for the lass.

£17 pounds sir! - "Err How much is that water? I was expecting an £11 bill"

"Oh you want the Lunchtime Burgers?"

I look at watch - it is 12:30pm.

"Yeah".

"thats £11 then - I'll have to refund you".

Huffs and puffs - no apology, no explanation. All my fault obviously.

Least the Beer was OK.

I wouldn't eat in Asda Cafe after what I witnessed last friday......

Whilst shopping I had to nip to the Ladies. A Cafe worker came out of the loo and wasn't even going to flush it until she saw me waiting to go in. She then picked her apron up off the filthy toilet floor and stuck it between her knees while she swilled her hands under the tap (no soap used). Half of it was still trailing along the floor as she walked to the hand drier.
As she had stopped chatting to someone en route back to the cafe I came out in time to see her put her apron back on and straight behind the food counter again. UUUgggghhhh

Makes you wonder how many other places have employees who aren't adhering to the Basic Food Hygiene Rules!

I had jacket potato with tuna mayo in spoons...there was a really sharp piece of metal in it which cut all my mouth open. i took the jacket potato back along with the piece of metal...they told me that it wasn't metal at all and it was a bone from out the tuna and i must have just bitten my tongue the make it bleed that bad...it was definatly metal.. im pretty sure anyone can tell the difference between a bone and a piece of metal..its not like it was even a small piece.I received no apology and no refund

I would've kept the metal piece, taken pictures of the meal, got the staff members name, and contacted Environmental Health as well as the Spoons manager and head office.
