They already offer basic services in some areas (plumbers, PC repairs etc.) and are putting locals out of business if they don't join up and hand over a share of their profits.

I don't go in Stafford Tescos mainly cos I don't like their own brand stuff and the staff ain't as nice as those in Sainsburys.

I'd think that the only challenge that Tesco will present will be to the Quik Fit operations et al, smaller garages that offer decent services but higher prices should survive.

Halfords are pretty much seeing to that, we've had two Halford's Auto Centres crop up very quickly and sneakily in the town - on top of the halfords store.

Used to call in almost every night to get something for tea on way home from work but had an issue over my change one night a couple of years ago that they were unable to resolve so haven't been in since.

I can remember when Tescos was slagged off for a different reason

Its own brand Delamare jeans ( available from the Stafford store opposite the Vine Hotel ) were THE riducule apparel in the days of Brutus Gold...or was it Levis...

might have been Wrangler actually..

not sure now

Skinners?

I understand that the old Tesco food-hall ( now Superdrug ) may be due to be knocked down as a part of the 'new council office piazza-style area rejuvenation scheme'...
