I am not the problem, the roads leading into Stafford are.

The way I see it is the town is expanding but they don't have a good road system but I have no idea how they can improve it.

If you weren't on the roads leading into Stafford, and neither was anyone else making such a short journey, I suspect the roads would flow much better. Make cycling even more attractive than it is now and a lot of the problems would disappear, but only if the short car journeys do.

Because I don't want to, just like you don't want to learn to drive or stop drinking cider. :)

I have a motorbike for when I need it, I have cider for when I don't. I don't complain about the state of the roads, because I choose not to use them. When it is a choice rather than a necessity the argument falls a little short.

It is always useful to have transport if you have children or a OH but you seem to be a free spirit so you don't need them ;)

The 20 limits near schools seem a bit of a futile gesture - at school in/out times, 20 is barely possible through all the crazy parking.

The Sandon Road/Beaconside lights have a full left filter lane and a separate left filter light for the northbound side. The filter never activates until the full green does, even when it wouldn't compromise any traffic or pedestrian priorities.

Lotus lights are clearly better when they fail to work.

Etc.

I don't think there is a single set of traffic lights (as opposed to pedestrian crossing lights) that improve the flow of traffic in Stafford. You only have to see how free flowing things get when the lights pack up for proof that the whole lot of them need removing.

I can only think of two sets that have gone in my time.

Silkmore Lane / Lichfield Road and Radford Bank / Cannock Road / Weeping Cross.

The roundabout at Beaconside/Weston Road was built in 1978, it was a T-junction before that. It was remarked at the time that it was odd that the traffic light fetish that pervaded the Queensway didn't extend to that location.

The roads are normal roads, common across most of Europe. The reason we have so much congestion is that too many people want to drive everywhere. It's a very selfish thing to do, not only does driving everywhere increase road deaths and pollution, but it makes the whole environment worse for everyone. In contrast walking and cycling improve health, the environment (by reducing pollution from cars) and they also make those who partake healthier. I'm sure if we built 6 lane superhighways into Stafford so you never had any congestion your journey would be far easier, but would it be better for us in the bigger scheme of things? Would it my arse. With an ever increasing population, and ever increasing obesity, getting people out of their cars is the only way to move forward. Driving even the shortest of distances is so 20th century!! :)

Th
Without investment in outer roads, EDR or a WDR etc Staffords traffic problems will only get worse. 500 houses on GE (Alstom) forced into town via Weston Rd / Lichfield Rd as they Have to enter the new estate vie Fairway/St Leonard's Ave.
Little investment in providing other means, paths/ Busses etc. Stafford can't even have a Bus Station.
There was talk about opening up the road behind Stafford town stadium linking river way and fairway to take traffic from the Alstom development !!!

My cousin lives in London and he doesn't drive but now he has children I think he regrets he didn't get his license.

My sister lives in London and has no idea why she would ever need a car. She cycles most places, and for further distances the public transport provision down there is almost 24 hour availability. Infact, Staffords backward public transport and cycling provision is one of the reasons she will move from London, but not back here :(
