I was only in there the other day :(
They had run out of ales though, apparently had a good night on Friday with the bands and drank them out of real stuff. Also short of bottles, but they found some Green Goblin upstairs luckily!

yeah I was in Friday to see the bands . good night and it was busy . like you say though unfortunately it's dead most of the time .

HMV are closing at the end of March - I love films but I suppose we shall have to go on line to HMV to buy DVDs in future. the Guildhall is going to look very empty.

I'm involved in Stafford music festival during May. We have booked market square for 18th May - hopefully there will be people in Stafford that day!

YEP. sorry chaps but they didn't open yesterday or today. theres no sign in the window or anything online, but whoops there it is. I don't often believe in gossip and had a few people tell me this morning but yes eventually I stepped outside and looked with my own 2 eyes and it's shut. sorry :(

It's deserted, still got the cakes on display and everything, but doors shut and no sign of life.

We've ended up in spoons, but they will only serve us one drink as we have a kid with us. She's eating, but apparently we have to as well and I'm just not hungry. Anywhere childffriendly in town? Can't wait for the hungry horse to open!

I think the Bird or the Watermill allow kids in during the day if they're open.

Joxer's is fine with kids during the day, I think they like you to leave by 8.

Thats no problem, we'd be gone by 4! After a day shop hunting on the off chance one sells something you want it'd be nice to have fed her and had 2 drinks for ourselves, as it was we'd finished before she'd finished her meal. Shame, they sell good cider, but the point of sitting down was to stay down for a while rather than move on.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the idea and applaud it in a way, but they've just lost another customer. If you are waiting for food and are thirsty a pint doesn't last long!

Well Joxer's may not help you there. I'm afraid their food menu is Salt & Vinegar, Cheese & Onion or Dry Roasted nuts!

First time I've ever heard that rule and we have been in both spoons with our little one.

Which spoons does this apply to? And so I'm straight, is the rule that you can only have one alcoholic drink if accompanied by child....? (No exceptions?)

This was the butlers bell. We arrived, sat down and I went to order. I ordered the young un some food, and ourselves a drink, and was immediately told we had to eat as well otherwise we could only have one alcoholic drink each.

So like I said, that's another pub off our list.

I think this is a local rule for local people for the Butler's Bell i.e. similar to the non use of the outside seating at the front for smokers or drinkers.

When my two were under age we used to go into the Picture House during the day and had more than one drink with a meal. The only problem we ever had was during the World Cup when an over zealous bouncer tried to kick us out because there was a football match on that they weren't even showing and children weren't allowed in despite the "children welcome" signs outside. As we were marched out there were several football topped "hooligans" being allowed in by the other bouncers. We got £50 of vouchers and 8 free meals after complaining to Wetherspoons HQ.

It gave me great pleasure to see said bouncer flustering as it was all kicking off about 2 hours later when we strolled past.

Interestingly the webpage for the Picture House says children welcome but the Butlers Bell doesn't. Might be worth emailling them as the options for kids meals and a few beers seem to be slowly deminishing.

I'm still wondering what sort of licence they hold for the pavement. You can't drink out there, so not a proper licence surely? But you can't smoke, and it's a public pavement, so they must have some sort of licence for exclusive use? I assume a FOI would be needed to see what they pay the council and for what rights?
