What's happening to The Island pub?

I noticed that on the way in to town this morning. I was going to do a basil* on the way back home and ask the workers what was afoot, but they had gone.

*in the non-onanistic sense

I nearly did a Basil too but the workmen had disappeared back inside when I got there.

They were taking some of the old furniture out so I hope they are going to refurbish the pub rather than salvage what they can and abandon it again.

I am pretty certain they wouldn't waste time and money sticking new UPVC windows in there if they were abandoning it. Looking forward to hearing what it could be though...

I suppose the prospect of a new restaurant at the Green and the busy nature of the Sun make it a more tempting prospect for a business then in previous years.

I hope not! Best car wash in Stafford, easily.. Very easy access, great location, and they do a cracking job for only a fiver

£5 for a wash and they don't even wax the car or use anything worth while for tyre shine.... I would head upto the shack by Halfords if I was you!

A Mrs Picky that I know swears by the lads at the BP garage opposite Reynolds.

at this stage, isn't anything better than nothing?

not necessarily, no.

Look back through the years of what great Stafford gems have disappeared due to the classic 'well, it's better than nothing...' ZullZhit!

Some chaps were clearing some debris out just now, and were happy to discuss the situation with me (perhaps only because I pointed out that I wasn't basil). It seems that it is intended to be (yet another) Indian restaurant, opening in the late summer. They were kind enough to let me have a quick look round inside and it is looking very 'rustic' after all these years...
