Holy Hell!
I went up to M6 J31 today, through the "Smart" Motorway construction north of Stoke. As much as I rant against the over-the-top Health & Safety mania of today, it struck me that I wouldn't want my name on the risk assessments for that lot.
Eighteen miles, with scores of diggers operating feet from passing traffic in a snowstorm. The potential for an errant arm, bucket or slung load to enter the path of the traffic seems rather high. Top marks to the blokes for every day they manage not to do it, but the scope for disaster is huge.
And, trying to get a fully laden eight-wheel tipper out into three lanes of nose-to-tail 50mph traffic from a standing start - uphill - is not something that I would want to do very often.
