Drove down to London early this morning. Here until tomorrow afternoon. Not been since before the first lockdown and I'd forgotten how much I dislike the place. Still needs must. Things might pick up if the sun ever pops out.

Can’t even stand going to Birmingham to be honest, the only area of London I find tolerable is the area around the ExCeL as it feels a bit more coastal than city

I hate ExCeL with a passion. Too many nights spent in smelly underground car parks during shows.

Has anyone else found themselves almost entirely changing what they want to do to unwind in the last year?

I’ve always hated going anywhere not within the confines of Staffordshire, always found it a hassle and I’d rather be at home. But now suddenly I find myself looking at places the wife and I could go for a weekend away, where the nearest coastal town is (bloody far away for me), etc.

She’s also expressed interest in one day owning a motorhome as the idea of being able to plonk it down in what is essentially a carpark sounds appealing. A nice caravan seems more apt though… I’d hope I’m driving something that can pull one by the time we’re able to buy one.

Taken back in time .... it's like being in a Spanish disco bar years ago with only the one unisex loo.
Having a bloody great time though , everyone dancing in their socially distanced seats to the loud music in a Gin Bar.

Feeling young again :D

Blinkin' 'eck, we didn't take two suitcases between us!
Whereabouts in Devon are you off to?

Well when I say two suitcases each I might have been exaggerating somewhat, but you know me, never one to let the truth get in the way of a good story.

So to be more precise, we shall be taking exactly zero suitcases and that is because we will be going away in our motorhome where I have wardrobes and cupboards to put in the clothing paraphernalia, not sure how many suitcases it would fill, we just take loads of stuff because it's difficult to know what the weather might decide to do.

Inspired by @BobClay a few years ago who visited the Valley of the rocks, we have booked Newberry Valley campsite in Combe Martin.

We've been to Devon before, but not this part of Devon. So many lovely parts of Britain to visit, can't understand why people keep going to the same place over and over again but each to their own. I just love to explore new places.

This evening had the promise of remaining dry, if not exactly warm, so I headed to my currently preferred hostelry.

I went along what I like to call the Falls Road.

Into what was a very bright sunset.

Even on the return journey, past midnight, the sky was not dark.

An evening of convivial chat, whilst surrounded by swallows and bats endeavouring to reduce the midge problem was most congenial.

I like this time of year with those twilight nights. I remember camping on the Isle of Skye once at this time of year, there was barely a night, more of the twilight that separated dusk from dawn. Very interesting. As opposed to this time of year in the Arctic where the Sun doesn't actually set. Not so much interesting as slightly disturbing ... (to me anyway.)
I would call on the Flat Earthers to explain that one. :P

Spent some of today ‘helping’ daughter with her home work. Not sure what the educational value of building a model Tudor house is other than patience!

When I was a teacher part of my role as head of department was to order stationary for my staff.

I had a new guy who asked for the usual, board rubbers, pencils etc, he then asked for packs of multi coloured felt tip pens.

When I asked why he needed felt tip pens he replied, 'For when we do colouring'

I looked him straight in the eye and said
'There will be no colouring in my department'

I teach philosophy. Not art. I encourage creativity but it's basic lazy teaching when teachers give kids doodle tasks.

Ah, your memories of it differ from mine - I mostly remember it from the last time EGX was at Earl’s Court, we stayed at (on?) the Sunborn overnight and enjoyed a riverside breakfast at a cafe in the morning. But yeah if you’ve mainly been on the exhibiting side of trade shows I can see why it may sour your memories of the place. Much in the same way I only ever find myself in Brum for work.

I hated those homework tasks as a kid. Build a Mosque? Do I look like a chippy? Build an instrument, etc. I was always one to try and get good marks but at some point I did give up on that crap, came in with some bottles hanging from a cardboard rectangle as a “musical instrument”

I remember that homework. With a little help from my uncle I used about 10 rulers fixed between 2 pieces of wood. They were pushed in at different lengths so to give a different note when twanged.

I remember going to a new school and the (Welsh) teacher announcing that the afternoon would be spent "taking a lion for a walk".

I thought this sounded a little alarming, but all the other kids seemed to think that it was a great thing to look forward to.

After dinner, it became clear, eventually, that he had actually said "taking a line for a walk" - this involved scribbling on a sheet of paper and colouring in the resulting spaces...

I believe they call that A Level work nowadays.

I'm being very grumpy today, I'm utterly fed up with over-the-phone Dr's & physio appointments, so I've been a grumpy moose by phoning the Dr's today & insisting tomorrow's appointment is face to face & not over the phone.

It'll be the first time (apart from my hospital stint) that I've left the house in 2 weeks.

I've just had three hours in the pub - with plenty of liquid.

Pressure-washing the auditorium floor prior to a couple of coats of paint in a few days time.

It's always been a bit of a dusty surface, so this should improve matters and the next step in the reopening process is imminent shortly.
