My trusty old Stafford bike is not so trusty now, in that the front changer is nearing the end of its life. I doubt that I am going to be able to read any identification details from it. It's a three-ring changer, controlled from a handlebar lever. How standardised are these systems? Are things generally interchangeable or do I need to get the 'right one', to suit both the changer and the rings?
I wouldn't mind getting a new rear changer, too - I presume the same answers will apply to that.
Having mostly ridden my 'new' bike on the other island for the last two years, the difference in usability is quite noticeable now.
It's 7 speed at the back, 3 speed at the front and I'm using these combined brake levers and gear shifts, if any of that matters.
There just seems to be an endless variety of similar-looking stuff.
@Stoofer34@ ..?
