Mundane facts about your day: Part Deux.

Had to ring Severn Trent after receiving half year water bill for nearly 400 quid. Been really careful with it as well ......now hoping not to be hit with a big bill for repairs if an underground leak is found under our land when they come on monday to investigate. 😭

We had the internal stoptap and a couple of minor leaks inside the house fixed straight after the massive burst from our connections outside the property boundary in August. They discovered the meter was still running with nothing on in the house once the burst in the street was fixed , but couldn't investigate at the time with the stoptap being furred up and couldn't turn off.

Hoping it's just a faulty meter....

Made the right decision to change my usual walking route this afternoon and explore pastures . What I've always dreaded on my regular route whilst making a quick dash along the path past the big leaning tree .... just read it's come crashing down across the path and church carpark!

I always think of Neville with trees now. :( Hubby used to walk down the Isabel trail daily before work & lunchtimes.

Just glad I wasn't walking my usual route today for a change. The ground is so soaked here and so many ancient trees nearby at danger of going over in these winds . Amazing how shallow the roots are when then come toppling over. (When I see the branches fallen off in the pools , always looks like crocodiles in the dark woods . Good for keeping the pace going 😂 )

So glad that leaning tree is now down without hurting anyone , I didn't have to do my usual dash past today. (would have been better if it could have stayed safely upright and still living though as it must have been hundreds of years old ! )
Hopefully all the other ancient trees in the dense woodlands I walk through fall onto each other to break the fall as loads have already done , rather than onto someones head.

Enjoying a drop of red.
In London for a couple of days for the snooker at Ally Pally. All good fun so far. Found a nice place for lunch called the Starting Gate that's only 10 mins walk and I think that apart from breakfast at the Purple Palace we're going bagging ourselves here when matchplay is over.

Built in 1875, the year Alexandra Palace opened, as the "Palace Café" it became the Starting Gate in 1858 when a racecourse was established in Alexandra Park.
Considerable vestiges of this pub’s rich, late-Victorian furnishings remain, having been refitted by Richard Dickenson of St John Street, Adelphi, in 1899.

Thought we'd moved in to a nice quiet corner plot.... house in the opposite corner , usually never see the quiet oldish couple who have lived there 26 yrs since houses were built, has suddenly had 2 ambulances there for over an hour Friday night. Now a police van & police car just been there for ages , with 3 cops wearing blue gloves coming out carrying an item in a plastic bag :o

Nope not guilty ! 😂 Apart from son and girlfriend the only other visitor we've had since moving in is hubbys work colleague to exchange xmas pressies.

What area has she moved to @Lucy ? I feel so sorry for her , what a nightmare! We live in Warndon Villages by J6 and so far been really quiet.

That's why son kept warning us off houses in different parts of Worcester as he knew of student & rowdy areas, rough areas, drug dealing areas, and flood areas as well as those near to schools with parking problems for residents. Estate agents lied through their teeth trying to flog those as desirable areas , just lucky we had son to warn us off (We did go and see a couple while we were down in Worcester viewing others anyway, against his advice.....one area was so scary driving to the house with the doors locked we cancelled the viewing)

We hardly ever see or hear any neighbours around here. . Only spoke to that old couple the one time when we had the water burst and were the only ones without water. They filled us some bottles up for a cuppa and said it's a nice quiet safe area around here, they'd seen no trouble in the 26 years since they moved in as a new build. The curse of StaffordJas !

Today I heard the funniest insult, it even beats cock-womble......winkle-spanner!

Said by a over excited Welsh man, it was the most hysterical thing I've heard! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Well, looks like nights out and summer hols may be cancelled for quite a while..... Severn Trent investigating the extremely massive bill this morning has found there's either a leak somewhere from our property to the meter,or a faulty meter. With no supply the Meter's moving at a rate of 576 litres a day.
Hopefully it's the meter , or the connecting pipework under the pavement when they come to dig that up.....otherwise it's a whopping expense for us if under our land. 😭
Had been hoping to help son out with his central heating repairs as he's already paid 3 lots of £250 out since christmas and now another part has gone .

His birthday present from us is paying for his car to get through it's MOT & service this week....... just hoping it sails through with nothing much :hmm:needing doing.....

You might see me plying for trade on Grapes Corner... 😂

Does he want a heat pump? There may be help, but if wanted to stay with gas only if its a not condensing one currently.
It's a condensing one (Potterton) as the condensing thing was leaking the other week in the downstairs unit and new part fitted , and now something else on a pipe for the condensor in the same unit is leaking apparently . (He's sent photos to the gas bloke who's coming out this week yet again).
He had the valves replaced upstairs for the water one week , then the heating valves replaced upstairs when they also conked out the next week. Would have been cheaper having the whole lot replaced by a combi-boiler , but he's thrown so much at this one thinking the problems would be then fixed each time !

On Friday, I made a Lidl trip, this involved going past the second nearest acceptable pub, where there was a clock that I was asked to look at. That was a little too big to bring back on the bike, so I called in to pick it up in the car.

This involved interacting with the licensee's wife, the local Practice Nurse - "Who's doing boosters now?" - "I am, call in on Monday, I'll be there all day."

This would please the woman nextdoor, whose phone I use to receive the reminder texts...

I've just strolled down to the Health Centre and was back out in under two minutes - stabbed and recorded.

Also, I was stabbed in the right arm - first time I've had an upper arm jab on that side since 1968, when I had a whole trayful of needles applied to both sides. It will be interesting to see what site reaction I get, if any. And the actual stabbing was the least noticeable I've ever had (so far), I genuinely thought she was still clearing the target zone when it was all over.

Such a civilised process...
