11 minutes to the golf club even stuck behind a tractor on the 518, it's just the railway bridge that's the issue.

What's horrific...

Well, we are lucky in Stafford, we can drive to any supermarket within a 15 min journey, but what if you live in a really rural place, like parts of Wales? Your stuck using the local co-op that literally charges 3 X the price (of supermarkets) for even the most basic items.

We go to Newquay in Wales a few times a year, the nearest propper supermarket is in Aberystwyth..a 42 min drive....
We stayed in the Sea Horse at New Quay twenty-nine years ago and never thought about supermarkets.
And never thought about supermarkets while staying in the Glengower Hotel in Aberystwyth eleven and six years ago.

We stay in the Haven caravan site, if we want to cook a meal in the caravan, we need a supermarket. The same as when we stop in Barmouth.

Our holidays are budget holidays, not all inclusives, if they were, we wouldn't be in Wales (as beautiful as it is)....
Were fortunate that we can afford any kind of holiday at all, lots of people can't.

You were in a hotel at Aberystwyth, the Sea Horse no longer provides food, but maybe you had the money to eat out. We don't.

Apart from a cottage for a week when our daughter was young we've usually only gone away for a couple of nights bed and breakfast so probably spend much less on holidays than most people.

Exactly my point. Where could you shop, out if interest, if you could only travel for 15 mins? And would there be a price difference between there and a average big supermarket?

We've stayed in hotels not half a dozen times in thirty years but, yes, we often eat out when away.
And only one proper foreign holiday in that time.

Considering how much time and fuel you'd save on the return journey to Aberystwyth, you'd be much better off going to the Nisa in Aberaeron. Unless you fancy the day out of course.

My last foreign holiday was my head honeymoon, 17 years ago. That was also the last time I stayed in a hotel...

🤣🤣🤣🤣 Hoping the carer, @Just little old me:) comes along and reminds me exactly which day this month that is..... Or if anyone else knows, please tell me...mmmmm

We've averaged about two nights nights four times a year.
Bed and breakfast at £44 per room ( £14.67 each, £11 with an extra one ) in the Earl of Chatham at Lostwithiel seventeen years ago might not be much more expensive than a caravan and supermarket food.

My interpretation was that it was aimed at more urban areas? Everything within 15 mins walk sounds marvellous to me! I hate going to town. I wish everything was close at hand. 15 mins walk is about 2 miles for an average person? Perhaps needs more thought but new build places would definitely benefit? Not sure, need more info!

The average person walls at about 3mph. So a 15 minute walk is less than a mile. How do those who aren't able bodied or the elderly expected to cope, however, unless they can drive/take a taxi?

It's a great idea in principle but a substantial minority wouldn't be able to live in such areas.

15 mins there is no problem, but 15 mins back with a weeks heavy shopping is a completely different thing.

When the carer was made redundant, money was tight, we had to sell our cars, when shopping, we walked the 25 min (for me, I have a disability of sorts) down the lines to Lidl, did the shop, 1 big bag to carry each, and one we carried between us, holding a handle each....it's no joke....if you're fit and able you can shop daily, but if not you're reliant on walking, buses or taxis (neither of which we could afford) it's an absolute joke.

15 minutes is a mile, walking briskly.

Takes me 27 mins to walk from the common to Sainsbury's (I have a minor disability that effects my walking) probably takes the carer or minime around 20 mins, but they walk at a fast pace
Maintaining 4mph is something few people will do for long - and the surface matters, plus the obstructions, crossing roads, etc.

And carrying a load of shopping won't help...
