curious as to what a mock hog roast is?

A HUGE slab of quorn carefully sculptured into the shape of a hog and then spit roasted?

I don't understand people not wanting to eat meat then pretending to be eating meat.

I had this discussion with the resident vegan at work....."its the cut of meat that is described rather than the meat itself. so it can be anything....like a steak of cauliflower" .....yea?

That being said, i am intrigued to see if the vegan hog roast does taste like pork? will their be apple sauce and stuffing too?

People give up eating meat for a variety of reasons but not liking the taste of meat isn’t usually one of them!

Some reasons are.....someone has been told to cut out meat for health reasons, example heart health.
Or they don’t want to contribute to climate change, greenhouse gasses or destruction of the planet.
Or they just feel bad about eating an animal.

Some, but not all vegetarians actually miss eating meat so if they can find a substitute that passes for the real thing then all well and good.

Why do think people are pretending to eat meat? The more conventional diet traditionally involves 'meat & two veg', 'meat' being an essential protein component of the meal. Meat substitutes are made from vegetable derived protein. You need protein, and the substitute provides it in an easy and 'tasty' form. Carole is right, a small number of people don't eat meat as they simply don't like the flavour, I have met a few, Linda McCartney when she started her company in 1991, it was seen as a way for meat eaters to forgo their former eating habits, with less angst. So her products came in sausages, burgers, mince and pies, to name a few! I have lost count of the amount of times I have I had to answer the question, "What on earth do you eat?" as if there couldn't be anything to eat if you don't eat animals, or products derived from their exploitation? (Oh my god, just what I need, a Vegan evangelist! :barf: Ed)

Yes, I understand now though my wife isn't one of those vegetarians who "actually miss eating meat"
