Guildhall closure?

Would be a lot better if they got a unit in the middle of town, that store generated a lot of footfall and it would be a shame if it went away from the market square area
It would be, I can't really think of any units that could be a possibility with to be honest. Stafford is the smallest Poundland I have ever encountered and any new poundlands I've come across are all in big units, not in town centres. I hope they find a unit either way and stay in Stafford for the sake of the jobs that would be lost and to keep people from internet buying as much.

The old M&S would be good, but probably a bit TOO big for them - although, they could then expand their clothing offering.
Way too big and tbh the cost of getting it up too spec would be substantial, it's in a very poor state, the unit thats just been opened as a pet store on kingsmead would have been ideal

All that money for 'transforming the highstreet' is tied up in schemes the council claims is commercially sensitive and won't tell us about. Who wants to take bets that money goes to the Guildhall owners.....

I dimly remember something about that, and yes I've seen a shift in then to out of town places as they've expanded ranges and price points

Yep, I wasn't imaging it, @Noah mentioned it in Feb 2020

And my foreshadowing immediately after, oops.

Genuine question though… what does a Poundland even have that’s worth going in for these days? A lot of the general goods (bread, etc) you can get there are cheaper elsewhere, and most other tat is available in B&M and Home Bargains for either the same price or cheaper… isn’t it?

I don’t think that the stuff in Poundland is “tat”.
Most of it is branded goods and is sometimes double or four times the price in Boots or a supermarket.

If people have enough money to waste without shopping around to check prices then fair enough but I was brought up to look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves.

Cleaning products, loo rolls, gardening stuff, shampoos, stationery, actually just loads of stuff it’s all cheaper in Poundland.

So just to clarify the tat I was referring to wasn’t the essentials, it was the other stuff: low quality phone accessories, random unbranded toys, etc

I always found essentials weren’t that cheap, yeah some brands were but they still weren’t as cheap as supermarket own brand stuff (which is often the same factory making it anyway) - it’s been quite a while since I’ve been in there mind you, ironically because I find the Guildhall to be incredibly inconvenient to get to compared to just parking right outside Asda, B&M, Aldi, Lidl, etc. I’d probably pop in there if I didn’t have to go for a 5-10 minute round trip (depending on where I park) from the car to get there without paying for the privilege of using a carpark for 10 minutes. That’s another issue altogether though…

Well, yes, I don’t use the one in The Guildhall very often for that reason.
If I’m buying loads of heavy household stuff I want to park outside.
Which is why it’s a shame that there isn’t one on Queens anymore.

I get quite a lot of stationary from poundland, and it's useful for putting gift bags together, but I rarely make a trip into town for it, but I'm blessed with a home bargains across the road from us.
