    I have a friend.

Late 20's, very pretty, degree educated and in full time employment, average height, average build, brunette and mother of 1.

    She WLTM

Someone nice, a genuine guy unafraid of commitment who likes children. Someone she can talk to, who enjoys going out and staying in, that isn't a complete minger and is taller than she is.

Not a lot to ask for really though Stafford seems to be in short supply.

This thread sums up the dating world completely, no genuine prospects but a hefty pile of bullsh*t.

I'm so glad I'm married, I'd be lost in the dating scene these days.

To be fair I have been to two weddings in the last year where the couples met online

Apparently PlentyofFish is not the one for a long term relationship, so if your friend is prepared to pay a small fee to join say eharmony or muddymatches she may find some happiness.

The only advice that I would give your friend is to get out as much as possible, (time permitting, as she is a mother) because you never know where you might find someone. Inceasing your social circle as much as possible inceases your chances because you just don't know who has a brother, who has a son etc.

Mind you I knew a woman once and I gave her the same advice...."Get out there, they are not going to come knocking at your door"

She proved me wrong big time.

A few months later I went round and a man answered the door, her new live in lover.

Turns out he came to fix her front door lock, it was love (or lust) at first sight, he didnt go home for a week and moved in very shortly afterwards.

She said "you said no one would come knocking but thats exactly what happened".

Anyway I digress, I agreed with John Marwood about online dating. Anyway that has to pay to join is certainly more serious than those going on the free ones, not that there are not genuine ones on the free sites but just harder to find maybe.

Pid for ones mean much less fake profiles etc. but certainly not any. I once looked into buying some software for a dating site for a customer, you'd be amazed at the configuration options for pre-seeding the site with profiles. Make it free to view then pay to contact, fill with fakes, automatically send generic messages from fake accounts then watch the money roll in from people thinking they were talking to someone real. It was all rather sad, and put me off online dating!

Gosh thats terrible, I had no idea.

I have never used them but I know a few people that have...they must have been lucky then to meet up with real peope.

Surely the bigger well known ones are genuine?

I assume these sort are usually set up when they have no customers - who would join a dating site with nobody on it? No promise they get deleted though, wouldn't shock me to find a smallish percentage are still fake on the less well publicised ones. The big ones like match.com will be a lot more likely to be honest as they wouldn't want their name smeared if found out, I suspect the more 'adult' ones have a higher percentage of fakes though because many would be ashamed to make a noise about it.

I treat everyone off the internet as not real until I've met them in person, you could be a hairy truck driver called Dave from East London for all I know.

I am finding surprisingly difficult to meet people in a small ::cough:: friendly town.
I understand your frustration, Bob. The positive side of a forum like this is that you are guaranteed to meet real
people and not fake profiles. On the other hand, it seems forumites are rather worried at keeping their anonymity.

Luckily, I am not a forumite... but it is indeed a tough time for singles,
even for a hidden treasure like the one typing :P

P.S. Can't your lady friend type? Why are you her scribe?

Well you never know until you have a go.

Really, life is too short to think "what if?"

Grab life, go for it...arrange a coffee. Blimey, its half an hour out of your life.

So you dont get on....? Move on to the next date.
