Not actually down st leonards is it? as I live here although traffic has been constantly going down here, think half way down lichfield, crossing outside dentist where it happened?

Husband came past just after 4.30pm and Lichfield Rd traffic leaving town wasn't allowed to go straight on or to turn right at Lloyds bank either to go round by B&Q. Traffic was being diverted back down Riverway and down St Leonards so must have happened somewhere by the crossing.

A34 Lichfield Road Stafford, both ways between Riverway and St Leonard's Avenue
A34 Staffordshire - A34 Lichfield Road in Stafford closed and delays in both directions between the Riverway junction and the St Leonard's Avenue junction, because of an accident. Diversion in operation - A449 and Silkmore Lane.

That junction is incredibly dangerous for the reason that there's no time to turn right out of Riverway onto Lichfield Road, cars going straight on from The Hough to Riverway frequently jump the amber and red lights leaving the car waiting to turn right having to make a risky move to complete their turn while cars wanting to continue on Lichfield Road are starting to move. All this while it's also a pedestrianised junction is a recipe for disaster.

It's not helped when cars travelling south bound along Lichfield Road that want to turn right into the Hough think it's perfectly OK to skip the queue at peak times by driving on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic until the right turn lane opens up.

Obviously, I don't know what happened in this case, I just hope the pedestrian is OK

I encountered that last week further along the road as I was driving out of town direction on Lichfield Road, just gone past the St Leonards junction and coming round the bend near to Queensville bridge. Had a car coming head on towards me, overtaking all the queuing traffic on the wrong side of the road,so that he could get in the right turn lane for St Leonards turning. Going at quite a speed as well! Luckily I had my wits about me and had to scuff my tyres up the kerb to avoid him hitting me .

I too hope the poor pedestrian is ok. I see the road is still closed and expected re-opening time keeps being put back. Now saying expected to be 7.54pm

worst thing about this junction is that there is only 3 seconds between the lights going red and the green man coming on. right turn traffic is still clearing the junction at this point especaily if straight ahead traffic have gone through on amber/red

I waited for the green man there the other week ,as someone had already pressed the button. Green man came and went and the traffic was still coming through. Red man came on with the traffic still coming through on red as the other traffic started off.

One thing I did notice when I crossed the Lichfield Rd towards Frankie & Bennys (by the bus stops),the green man for the other crossing stood out and caught my eye more than the red man intended for me . Maybe that could be a factor in why there are so many accidents in that part of the road , if other pedestians have glanced across, seen the other green man and mistaken it for theirs.
