Advice wanted on shop lease

Is there anyone on here who knows anything about the legalities of Shop leases? As I've mentioned before the lease ended on the shop at the end of September and we have been going on a monthly basis since then as Tenants at Will. We are due to move out in 2 weeks and the solicitor has told us he now wants us to sign a lease for the remaining 14 days to 'regularise' things at their end. We dont see the point of signing anything for just a 2 week period and are suspicious of why they suddenly need us to sign something when we have been here for over 2 months without a lease. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

I agree with Gram above for the best course of action...

I am guessing that if you don't sign the lease then you may be able to claim squatters rights....

Yes, already done that. We're still none the wiser, can only see how it could be in their interest.

Then I would suspect that you won't be in a better position. I would be tempted to put on a "dull 'un" and see what happens...

If it is your solicitor asking you to sign then sign it if it is their solicitor then don't sign!

haha yes it is their solicitor and it is precisely what we are thinking of doing! I suspect they only want us to sign it as without a lease at present they aren't able to get any money out of us should they decide the shop is in a worse condition than when we took it on.
