... but whats this?

Sounds interesting, going to have to give it a go methinks!

Leopard (OSX) now with full exchange support you say? Rather!

Edit: Not available until at least September when it's due to be shipped with new Macs. I'm looking at gettin a new one, my black book has been getting very very hot recently, in fact so hot there are melting marks on the bottom of the polycarbonate casing, which is nice, so I think waiting until September is a must.

no one gives a shit then :p
snow leopard is more of a "behind the scenes" update, isn't it? as in, there are no real extra bells and whistles over leopard to get excited about, it's just a big overhaul to get nearly all the code 64-bit and get it running even more efficiently.. obviously, these are good things, but it's not really something your average user will get a stiffy over..

i'm finally getting an imac in september, hopefully (so the missus can take advantage of the free ipod offer), so i guess i'll get to check it out then :)

well i believe apple is due to replace most of the models across the range in september so I'd at least wait until thats happened, I am planning on getting a new 13" macbook pro in september, however i might get a 15 if they have been updated significantly.

Which iMac are you planning on getting?

yeah, i'd always leave it until as late as possible.. i hope the new models come out before the free ipod offer runs out (18th september, i think)!

i'm just gonna get the 20" one i reckon.. i'd like a 24", but every time i see them in the flesh i realise they are way too big and i really have no need for one that size lol..

Haha yeah OS 9.... seemed brilliant at the time, looking back now though lol.

Then again I had Tiger on my macbook when I first got it, what a total abortion compared to 10.5/6

the first mac i bought was a G4 tower running OS 9, which i thought was an absolute beast at the time lol.. quite how mac fanboys used to claim macs were more stable than PCs, i don't know, cos i spent more time dealing with dodgy extensions and corrupt pref files than i did doing actual work on it lol.. what a stinking pile of shit OS 9 was lol..

really?? i use tiger on my emac and love it, but i haven't had the pleasure of using anything higher.. is leopard really that much better?? christ, i can't wait to get my hairy palms on snow leopard, in that case!

wait, isn't this a windows 7 thread? lol.. yeah, i've only ever used it once, and that was when i installed it on my brother in law's PC.. it looked lovely.. the end :teef:

Haha!

I haven't used Tiger extensively however I noticed that (on an intel based machine at least) leopard is more than noticibly faster. I haven't, however, used either OS on a G4 (or any non-intel mac AFAIK).

The GUI is smoother, far more intuitive, more useful, and in snow leopard the spotlight facility is mecca. Then again it is literally no better than system indexer in Win 7 (which from the start menu even searches my hotmail exchange mail and calendar!!!). Leopard is certainly prettier, and snow leopard has some lovely interfaces for stacks.

tiger is a pretty unstable OS too all things considered (although eons above OS 9) particularly now I have been using leopard for 9 months.

my tiger experience is limited but not great, whereas my limited leopard experience is a pleasure.

Bugger..... will have to keep an eye on that, both my machines are running show leopard now.

Fortunately I do have a backup of them though.

Thanks for that, I hadn't heard anything about it.

I don't want something to taint my view of what is so far OS perfection lol

...that's what people who aren't very interested in computers are told to say. Other people who say that are a) people over 65 b) young females c) people with a life.

What's the non-beta version of Windows 7 like then? Anyone actually bought it? I'm still on the beta (until next June when it'll stop working every 2 hours).
