Trendeez Fashion (old Panasonic shop) appears to be no more. Anyone know the story here, short-term lease, got bored, didn't pay? 50% off clearance sales a few weeks back when I went past.

Attempted to sell the kind of clothing nobody would be seen wearing even if they were dead in a ditch?

If true they've neglected to tell the staff, and as feb is a 28 day month I believe they are already past notice period? My brother works there, they are currently looking to replace the manager that is leaving at the end of Feb which seems a very pointless endeavor if they are closing on the same day!

The Works isn't closing down according to the manager. I asked him last week when I went in as the poster in the window sort of looked like a closing down sale but it isn't. Home Bargains isn't closing in the town centre. As the tek-monkey. said they are recruiting a new manager as the current one is taking over the Rugeley store.

I thought that, only repeating second hand gossip!

The Oldies have told me that Garden King (they insist in calling it Fosters?) in Bradely has closed today (they've sold off all the fixtures & fittings over the weekend).

Anyone know if there's any truth in it?

Omg I used to love going to fosters! When I was little with my parents :-( can't believe ELC is closing too, we have nowhere in town to but anything for our children it's terrible... Yeah we have a mothercare at queensville but when u don't have a car and live the other end of town it's quite difficult, and why can't I get a car? Perhaps the lack of blooming jobs n shutting down shops could be a reason lol it's deffinitly becoming a ghost town..

A point often missed when comparing Stafford to Cannock and Burton is that Burton and Cannock do have a considerable amount of industry, and therefore jobs

Man cannot live by public and service sector alone , even as a minor commute town

...apart from that lovely, independent toy shop on Salter Street, or the Works , or Wilkos for Arts & Crafts stuff - or any of the other shops, in town, that sell children toys / dress up / whatever else like the supermarkets, or Argos...

ELC has been in trouble for a very, very long time - bear in mind they closed the Birmingham Bullring branch a couple of years go.

Can confirm that Garden King (previously Fosters or Bradleys) has closed down

Manager is transferring to another branch but all staff have been made redundant :(

I have just heard Stafford online retailer Mothers Basement has ceased trading. Its website reports

Mother’s Basement has been forced to cease trading as and from Monday February 3rd 2014 due to financial difficulties.
Any customers who have outstanding orders with Mother’s Basement and haven’t received a dispatch confirmation or have previously requested a refund but have not received it are advised that you contact your card provider immediately to seek a full refund. If you paid by credit card and the order was over £100, your purchase is covered by section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. If you paid by credit card and the order value was under £100 or you paid by debit card, you are advised to place a chargeback with the card issuer to reclaim the funds. If you paid by Paypal, you are advised to contact PayPal or your card provider if the transaction was funded with your registered credit or debit card.
More information about Section 75 and chargebacks can be found by clicking here
Trade creditors of Mother’s Basement will be contacted individually by February 17th 2014

I think I remember an article in the Express and Star about the owner being an ex police officer who started it with her partner.
I feel sorry for the guys who started working at their astonfields hq when it opened back late last year. They obviously are all now out of work and for people who have paid for pre-order collectibles who will be left out of pocket.

I always feel dreadful when I hear about redundancies. When you read media reports of "x job losses" it is easy to forget that each one is a family not sleeping, a mortgage in arrears.

The people at Garden King have my sympathy but, oh my goodness, it was bad. I went there for the first and last time last Autumn, to meet an elderly friend. I hadn't been there since it was Fosters and couldn't believe how depressing, bleak and empty it had become.
