I just had the iPad mini with 3G, it's very quick, no waiting for anything to load, would definitely recommend, I had the first iPad prior to this, I'm sold on apple everytime, the quality is there and it's never fails to deliver

I managed to have a closer look at one today, they look really smart. You sound like you love an apple product!

Yes I am quite sold on apple products, but unfortunately I couldn't get on with the mac, I had one a few years ago and struggled navigating my way around it and could never find saved files. I might be tempted to give it another go when my current laptop is in need of renewal

Did you know that there's a free forum where there is a chance to win an iPad mini? If you ever get stuck using your future mac or if you want to know anything about your iPad mini, just post your question and people will try to help. Thank you, Kellie.

How is the screen? Not sure I'd be happy with the drop in quality from a nexus 7.

Yea the nexus 7 is meant to be the best small tablet on the market at the min but the ipad mini 2 with retina display will be out sometime between march and may

Not meaning to apple bash, but why couldn't they beat the nexus on the first go? They have the technology and the experience, the ipad 3 is a solid contender, but the first generation mini just seemed a step back to me rather than an exciting new product.

Enjoying a drop of red.

Use 'old' tech on a product you charge a premium price for and make a killing? All based on a reputation you still have but perhaps no longer deserve? (iPhone 5, iPad 4)

Waits to be flamed...

That's a bit like Mercedes Benz were doing 2000 onwards with average built cars selling for a premium.
When you think about it though VW have been trading on a reputation for reliable cars for years now when they actually put out distinctly average models reliability wise. They also sold plenty of mk5 Golfs despite the interior quality going noticeably downhill in comparison with the mk4 which shows that your average punter pays more attention to the badge/image than they actually do to the fit and finish.

programs and apps just seem to run better on all apple products tho they seem to be more stable and are optimised for ios or lion or whatever apple operating system you are running developers seem to favour the apple platform, for how much longer i don't know

In the car world image seems to last a long time, good or bad, deserved or not. With computers, and particularly with gadgets (phones, tablets etc) image seems to be very short lived. I'd wager that unless Apple put out something semi-revolutionary when they launch iPhone 6 or iPad 5 then their customer base might well disappear, almost overnight. People want radical and more with gadgets. Gentle evolution simply doesn't cut it.

My iPad 3 is excellent, but why on earth would I want to upgrade to an iPad 4? It's hardly any better at all AND I'd have to replace all my proprietary leads! So an upgrade for something better would inevitably lead me towards a Nexus 10 or similar at the moment with no need to buy new leads as I already have them with my Android phone. The prospect of the iPhone 5 wasn't anywhere near enough to tempt me away from my Nexus 4. It's faster, got a bigger screen, and a hell of a lot more customisable (without jail-breaking), not to mention many hundreds of pounds cheaper.

Apple needs to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

This may have been the case a year or two back, but I'm not seeing that now. I use apple products daily at work, and just can't see the fascination. They go wrong just as often, apps crash just as often, there is little difference in reliability between a stock ipad and a stock android. If I wanted one I could borrow an ipad from work, but I much prefer the Google nexus 7.

But that's what it comes down to now, which software you prefer. Hardware-wise there is very little in it.

I drive a mini, loads of people tell me it's too small why don't you get something bigger ? why? To suit them? I have an iPad mini because I like them, other people have a Nexus because they prefer them. each to their own at the end of the day!

I think that was the case a year or two ago, but the Android apps seem to have come on massively recently. Plus many of the Android devices are so powerful now. There are apps that my friends iPhone 4S judders on, but they run perfectly on my HTC One X. I guess the iPhone 5 might do better. Also I can happily watch video clips and browse the web on my phone, but the screen is just to small on the iPhone. They could have made it a bit bigger, but they want people to buy an iPad as well!
I really should try the latest batch of Android tablets. I have had an Archos one before and it was OK, but nowhere near as slick as an iPad. However I think the latest Android devices should be able to match it.

Speaking of the apple power adapter I thought that an EU directive had said all phones were supposed to have the same charger? It seems like every manufacturer has done this apart from Apple!

Hardware-wise there is very little in it.

To me, Apple products feel better made and feel better quality. Whether or not that is actually true, but my perception is that.

I have used a Samsung Galaxy tablet (10.1 or something like that, I can never remember their names as they have such confusing product designations) and thought it was a very nice product and felt pretty good but I still think the iPad felt much better quality.

Micro USB cannot do what the new Lightning connector can. I think there are audio and video connections within Lightning.

Personally I hate Micro USB as the connector is so small I can't see the bloody thing!
