that's a very hostile/defensive response.. if i post a thread "is there a starbucks in sainsburys?" would you post the same reply?

you're assuming the OP has hostile intent.. perhaps as a result of your own prejudices towards travelers, that you're projecting on others?

oh, and it should have been "so what if there are?" :teef:

Eh? I don't understand what the point of this discussion is, what difference does it make? I actually quite envy their lifestyle in some ways, and apparently I have Romany ancestors - so why would I be prejudiced?

I dont think the original question had anything to do with if you agree/disagree with them being there or their way of life, I think it was just a simple question of if anyone knew if the statement was true or not.

Personally ive no problem with the lifestyle as long as its all conducted within the law and they contribute to society (is this even possible?). Rumours/general opinion would tell me this isn't always the case, although ive no idea how accurate they actually are.

Ooh err. I think Molar's upset Lunar!
I agree with dirtybobby I'm afraid Lunar. Nobody has said anything offensive, a question was purely asked without any statement relating to prejudice or anything else. Molar only asked if there were, as like many of us he's spotted a caravan left sitting there.
Personally, I parked up and waited for the TV camera's - I thought they were filming an episode of Braniacs ;)

I hope so. The only good caravan is one that's been blown up amusingly. The one "accidentaly" set on fire on top gear was a beauty as well.

I've never really watched top gear. How was it "accidentaly" set on fire then?

On a recent journey to Holyhead I was held up three times by disembowelled caravans being strewn across the A55, each event being attended by the same copper. If I'd known of your special interest then I would have got pictures for your album.

They went on a caravaning holiday and burnt it down with a chip pan.

To be honest, the first two words of my OP summed it up really: "so what"? Why are people so bothered with other people's lives? You might want to go over to say hello and introduce yourself to new neighbours - but why the need to gossip?

Also, the comments about caravans being blown up are a bit out of order - it's like me coming to your house and saying something like, "You know, you could really improve this place by employing someone to post a fire bomb through your letter box"...

How the hell does me commenting on a kids tv show blowing up caravans have anything to do with insulting the way others live etc??
Your way off the mark again Lunar.
I just think it's mad that a kids show blows up caravans and that's about all I said.
My parents recently bought a mobile home on the coast and i think it's a gorgeous place to live in.... however that doesn't mean i have no right to find someone allowing their old van to be blown up if they've recently upgraded to a new one or decided they no longer want to keep it... ammusing.

The only person in this thread who has mentioned anything about people's way of living / rights / lifestyles etc. is you

I rarely get blunt and certainly don't intend to cause offence, but quote people on the facts of what they have commented on, and not on your assumptions of what you THINK they are (incorrectly) getting at.

Quote: improve my house by employing someone to throw a bomb through the letterbox. SO YOU'VE SEEN WHERE I LIVE THEN ;) (and even if you had I wouldn't be offended. It needs more than just a lick of paint and i'm the first to admit it. lol)

When I went there the lawn needed cutting, but firebombing? No, probably not.
