101 is the new, soon to be National, non-emergency number for Police. It will automatically direct you to your local force... Apparently. Flat rate number that's cheaper from mobiles than the usual 084 numbers

Not related to this guys case, but I saw a guy getting attacked (pushed to the ground, ~6 or so people kicking / punching time) behind Couture a few months back and called the police, took a few minutes for them to arrive and by the time they did the perpetrators and victim had all ran off. It was a shame as I'd recorded it too so I had evidence, if only they'd be caught :-(

It went live a few days back I believe, so it's available everywhere now, but yes it has a cost, around 15p per minute.

I rang 101 last week, I'd seen a pedestrian on the M6 Toll. Randomly it went straight through to the normal switchboard and I was given a 0121 number to ring the motorway police direct which again I found strange.

101 is a great idea I can't believe it's took the old bill so long to finally have a proper non emergency number. Trouble is now how many people know about it as I haven't seen it splashed all over the tv yet.
