Best vets?

HI All, I'm trying to gauge opinions on the best vet practice in Stafford. I'm soon to be purchasing a puppy and want to make sure they have the best vet. And I appreciate peoples views are purely subjective

thanks

I recommend Donnachie and Townley on Eastgate Street. Been going there for about 20 years and they have looked after five of our dogs and seven of our cats and I've always been happy with them and they way they care for our pets.

What criteria are you using for best vet?

Price?
Emergency out of hours cover arrangements?
Consistancy of vets to see, do they have lots of locums?
Ease of getting an appointment?

That sort of thing?

Lots of unwanted puppies in rescue centres :(

I would ask to visit a few of them and get your own view. As Kyoto49 says each will have their own positives and negatives....for me the main gripe I've had with Vets is their general unwillingness to share the cost of drugs which usually led to a exclamation of "how much ??!!" when coming to pay for treatments...

I take my cat to http://www.parkhousevets.co.uk/ and have always seen Ben, who seems like a lovely fella.
They have a large waiting room and are always welcoming when I take my cat.
Before here I was taking my pet to Island Vets but decided against going there, after feeling largely underwhelmed on a couple of occasions.

My advice would be, don't get a pet.
Feed the birds instead and/or buy a hedgehog house.

I did the opposite to 1JKz was at Parkhouse, now at Island, all treated my animals to the same degree of care, however Island allow us to have a combined prescription and get our drugs online. Parkhouse wouldnt combine prescriptions and would not budge on price, before finally striking off a remaining dog as we had dared look to save money with a dog that requires medication for the rest of his life.

Another vote for Donnachie & Townley on Eastgate St. No appointments, 2 surgery's a day, good prices, caring team. I can't fault them.

Go to the Rugeley surgery then as they do appointments,

I work but I would wait as long as necessary to take my pets to see the vet.

Nah, I'm happy with the vet I see in Stafford that does appointments. I love my pets, but I'm not going to be made to feel bad about not sitting pointlessly to see a vet for up to hours, when I can see one at a scheduled time at my convenience! I can't think of a single reason I would want to see a good vet but wait potentially hours when I can see a good vet at a guaranteed (give or take a couple of minutes) time.

I don't really see the need to wait around for hours without an appointment. When my cat needed an emergency abcess lancing, I called when the surgery opened and got an appointment two hours later. They're not going to leave an animal with a puss leaking face for longer than necessary, not if theyre a half decent vet. We use Park House

My old vet used a just turn up and wait system. It was awful on a busy day - lots of animals in an enclosed space getting stressed at the strange noises and smells and the fear of what was going to happen!

I much prefer the system at Park House Vets. I've never known more than 3 animals in the waiting room at the same time and that's normally due to an emergency taking priority. And we've always got an urgent appointment if needed. I'll also forever be grateful to Ben for calmly talking me through what to do when my dog and husband were attacked by another dog.

Another vote for Donnachie &Townley. We used them for over 16 years and they were really good with our 3 legged rescue dog. We used the Stafford practice at first, but found it easier going to their Rugeley one with their own car park . The Rugeley one had appointments, but you could aso turn up with emergencies and be seen.
They even kept the cost down when we first rescued her from Sunnyside as she came very poorly , as well as pregnant ,and had to have her leg amputated soon after we got her. They kept her alive a few times against the odds , and with numerous operations over the 16 years they knocked the consultation cost off sometimes to help us out.

When she got a splinter of glass in her foot on our late night walk, the vet arranged to meet us at the Rugeley surgery at midnight to get it out and a reasonable cost.

Called park house at 8.30 and got an appointment at 9.05 today to check out my cat's latest war wound. Excellent service, far better than my cat deserves.

I called park house at 5 am after my cat had a suspected stroke, within ten minutes he was seen, he had excellent care following this until he died of a heart attack a couple of weeks ago, again on a Saturday evening Ben met us at the surgery to arrange his cremation. I can't fault this vet practice nothing is too much trouble and they were very kind with their words when we lost our cat.
