Any idea whats happening with bin collection? Mine is standing guard at the bottom of the street. If its too dangerous for council to collect it then its too dangerous for me to collect it.

DOMESTIC REFUSE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION

The adverse weather has meant some households will not have had their bins emptied on their scheduled collection day. Biffa are currently carrying out the scheduled service today (Friday 8 January) but there may be a number of properties they are unable to get to due to the icy conditions - primarily side streets and untreated roads.

If you have not had your bin emptied by 5pm on the scheduled day then you will not have a collection until your next scheduled date.

Because of the increase of recycling and rubbish Biffa will collect side waste if bagged and left by the side of the appropriate bin. Rubbish should be left by the green refuse bin and recycling by the blue bin on the next appropriate collection date. But if possible could all glass items be placed in the blue recycling bin. If not we would ask residents to take care when putting glass in to bags.

thanks for that united57. That explains alot.

Problem now is that most of our blue bin is flattened cardboard, and it tears through the bags in most cases if you "bag it up".
Oh well - not much we can do i suppose.

I contacted Biffa today as my work bin didn't get the usual Thursday pick up, bad weather=no service and I'll have to wait till the following Thursday now, they did add that an unlimited amount of extra bags will be disposed of at no extra charge. Still, to unsightly and unhygienic to leave around and so six trips to the tip and a stinky car later did the job myself.

Still not 'bin' emtied around here either, and there are a LOT of people who's bins were already overflowing, and with the extra 'Christmas collections' cardboard by the sides - what they are supposed to do for another two weeks, I have no idea!

There seems to be no logic to this. I got mine emptied, despite living on an ungritted side road and the binmen having to walk round the backs to get them, yet my parents, who live on the A449 haven't had theirs emptied. It may just have been the Wednesday collection...

Apparently, and I didn't realise this myself, we were due to be a day late this week anyway.

I think everyone in confused me included, my streets recycling got collected Thursday this was after a statement put out on Wednesday that they were not going to collect to the next allocated collection day, luckily I left mine out as I couldn't face dragging the stuff back in the dark.

What is really confusing is that compared with some of the county Stafford itself is not as badly affected as some of the parts that they have managed to do bin collections from on the target day.

Under the circumstances I can totally understand if it takes longer than normal to do the collections. But leaving your rubbish out causes obstructions on already dangerous footpaths and lugging it back in again to wait for another fortnight will most likely end up with falls and people in hospital. Plus the cold snap is predicted to go for at least another 10 to 12 days. I personally think they are unwittingly causing unnecessary problems for the next few weeks by making panic short term decisions.

I don't envy the bin men in this weather though, their job must be really atrocious in this weather especially with the added burden of the after Christmas detritus. I'm just annoyed though not particularly surprised at the bad planning and confusing messages that are being sent out.

If you go on the Borough Council website you will see that those who were to have their bins collected on Wednesday and Thursday may not have had them collected. These bins will not now be collected until the next collection in a fortnight. They have gone straight to Friday's collection and left the others.
Someone I know spoke to one of the binmen and he said that they were not collecting those which are left out at present.

Great, mines been full since boxing day! Could be worse I suppose, had our green bin missed in the summer and it stank, there was some food in that for nearly a month. I just left it on the pavement, not having it stink my garden out.

Yet another lack of common sense! If all the bins were emptied in tha accessible areas rather than leaving a whole route it would reduce the workload for the next collection and tidy some of the streets.
Or have I got it all wrong?
Bin men dont work all day every day do they?
How about extending rounds to catch up when roads can be driven around?

Am I asking too many questions?
I'll go now...........

A couple of years back i suggested to my son-in-laws binman that as there wasn't much garden waste this time of year they introduce a policy that general household waste should be accepted from the brown bin as well as the green one for the 1st collection in january. He remarked it was a brilliant idea as it would be simple to carry out and the punters would be happy..........
