I know a really good plumber from Gnosall by the name of Kev. He fitted our boiler two years ago and it hasn't broke yet. It's a condensor. Our last combi boiler broke about 20 times. He's not the cheapest but not the dearest, although he does not work by the hour, he will give you a fixed price and that's it. Will ask Curly Sue for his number if you are interested,

I've got an uncle plumber, I'll pm u his details.
Hey MISS T...is your uncle a plumber or a boiler engineer? My boiler is on the blink big time, and i've had it looked at by a mate who does plumbing and it doesn't look like something he could do. Possibly something to do with the circuit board.

If not, does anyone else know someone who could do it as i'm reluctant to call British Gas!

Brrrrrrrrrrr!

edit: Saying that, I just checked by putting my postcode into their website, and it tells me the charge for a one-off fix is £168. Apparently quite reasonable, but i'd much rather have a person someone else can recommend who won't charge me a set fee regardless of the problem!

Im corgi registered. Work for a local family business (myself and uncle) called Ogdens. If you would like any advise on anything just let me know.

Cheers Rikki. Thankfully, on 2nd inspection, it seems all may not be so bad. What looks like the cause (don't ask me what it's called...I don't have a clue what he said it was...) is something easily fixable, and the part costs just shy of 20 squid. It could, however, be something totally different....and financially worse! Either way it's gonna cost me less than £168.

Depending on the outcome of tomorrow's antics I may well be giving you a buzz. I'll keep your number for the future though mate...I have a funny feeling that it's gonna piss on my chips this year....

No probs. Id guess the thermostat/thermistor has gone if the part is about that much and your friends not too sure. If you think it is the circuit board though the british gas option might be cheaper in the end, they can be very expensive for some boilers.

It was some kind of valve which wasn't playing properly I think.

Well whilst I was looking on the BG website earlier, mid-panic, I checked out the Homecare cover thingy...£10 a month and then £50 per call-out, or £13 a month with no call-out fee. Other Ts & Cs apply, but it sounds like a good plan.

TBH honest its not, however like all insurance some will save some wont. My parents boiler has been in almost 20 years and hasnt broken down once (until a few moths ago anyway). Other boilers that arent that old can need virtually every part replaced in less couple of year span (very rarely mind ). If you feel its getting to that age where things are inevitabley starting to break down the BG offer is a good one.

Had our boiler replaced in 2006 and Simon at Cross Gas was fantastic.

He did a great job at a reasonable price.
