Bring Back Capital Punishment!

I watched a repeat of Louis Theroux inside an American prison the other week. The one thing that stood out is that all the murderers, muggers, burglars etc acknowledged their crimes when he interviewed them. he interviewed a peado who spouted some rubbish and refused to admit what crime he'd committed. That to me suggests a man who'd never reform. I wouldn't rule out capital punishment entirely, there's a case for those who are a constant threat to society to be permanently removed.

We can sometimes end up with a strange situation here, as refusal to acknowledge your 'proven' crime can lead to you serving a longer period of custody in many cases. This means that somebody who has been wrongly convicted and continues to protest his innocence will serve longer than someone who says 'Fair enough, then, I did it. Can I go early?'

There are several instances of this going on at the moment..

The man in question on the TV program admitted he'd committed a crime but wouldn't acknowledge what it was, although he clearly knew. Acknowledging the crime and it's effects on the victim is (I believe) part of reforming. It shouldn't mean you get a shorter sentence though. As you say, it's an odd way to carry on to let people off with lighter sentences just because they hold their hands up.

If you murdered someone I don't see why you should ever be let out again, assuming you're guilty.

Taking the life of someone and then being able to enjoy freedom again 15-20 years later seems absurd to me. If it was premeditated cold blooded murder then the rest of your natural life spent in solitary confinement should be the very least you can expect.
