Just heard there were 3 burglaries on Fairoak Avenue, Parkside, last night (6th November) between 5 and 7pm.

Got in by trying all the front doors so please keep yours locked! X

They may be the 'several others' referred to here. that one was achieved by means of smashing a double-glazed rear window.

It's awful for anyone involved. These on Parkside were apparently burglars just walking in through front door. In one house kids toys and food were stolen.

Very sad - the mind boggles that someone would walk into your house at 5pm :-(

Does sound like it could be the same perps. The stuff that went from Cresswell didn't seem worth the effort and risk to me.

Oh! When I say 'risk to me', that is not intended to imply that there was a risk to myself of being apprehended.

The Luck Penny was broken into about 2 or three weeks ago. apparently they broke in about 5 or 6am saturday morning. Lots of early risers on trinity fields area, dog walkers etc, so people seem to be getting brave!! Keep your eyes peeled folks!

One of the scrap collectors has been going on to peoples property and stealing things again, so I wouldn't keep anything on show in front gardens either. I think he only got gardening tools but still not a nice experience. Are neighbour hood watch groups still around?

We were burgled last year twice with in one week. Had a strange effect on me.

I would recomend that you keep all dorrs locked even if you are in as I was the first time..in the living room on the sofa and they came in through the back patio doors whcih were not locked as not out. We had four cars in the drive ..all lights on and tv on but curtains open so they must have been looking in through the windows to see who was where and then made a dash in the back. I even have a dog who probably tried to lick them to death..she had no treats for a while...

They took all our laptops which were out on our kitchen table as well as everything else they could lift in a mad dash.

We went away the next weekend to cheer our selves up and they came in through the front dorr and cleared us out of everything they could carry.

Chances are we all have a story to tell on the matter of scumbags stealing from us and I am telling you this not impart my lifes story but really to say they have the cheek of the devil and I would advise every one to shut their curtains at night, lock all doors even at the back or side all the time. Fit lights out side and don't asume it will not happen to you. The crime provention team are always good for advise AND DO NOT EVER BUY ANTHING ON THE CHEAP unless you know where it is from as it is probably stolen. I now report anyone who offers me something cheap and it seems suspicious.

It is like Fort Knox at our house now...can't get out let alone in!!

PS Forgiven my dog as I love her for her gentle nature and wouldn't want her any onther way

I ******* hate thieves :grr:

Seriously, if I ever catch one in my gaff they will not be getting arrested for it. I may be on here asking to borrow a few spades and a concrete mixer though.

EDIT: I do actually have sympathy for the starving, but most people aren't stealing for food they are stealing because they are pikey scumbags who need all their fingers cutting off and made to eat them.

People do buy cheap goods no questions asked though. Often people on the dole who must see it as a robin hood type act. Others say it's okay as people are "insured".

They'd get a surprise walking into my house, the lights would come automatically on as soon as they entered the hall :) I have motion detectors that automate that sort of thing. Plus my living room light comes on automatically once the light sensor detects that it is dark.

The unfrotunate thing is that you do not get the value of your goods from insurance (assuming you have any) You have to proove EVERYTHING and who has receipts or pictures for everything? ...not many and if you do they ask why do you have this as though it has been planned.

The damage is not just in what has been stolen but dealing with the police, the insurance, having people in your house all of these things and just as upsetting as the items which have gone.

Robin Hood Act...??? I would not target the people on the dole who buy cheap as many people that I know have bought cheap goods can afford to go and buy them from legitimate sources...it is just human greed, a something for nothing approach and a complete lack of respect for others which unfortunately is more prevelant these days.

A forumite was burgled last night in Parkside. Be on your guard. Or at least spread a few razor blades around the garden / under outside door handles etc.

I am sure that the comments above are a little tongue in cheek, but residents do need to be aware that under the occupiers liabilty act 1984 states that you have a duty of care over non visitors i.e tresspassers and therefore if they are injured at your property you may be liable. The law is a little grey in this area and consequently there is no clear definition of what you can do to protect your home and property.

I'd have a duty of care over anyone who breaks into here. I'd care enough for them to call the ambulance after i'd finished with them. Assuming I could find my phone, which could take a few hours look for.

An officer of the law, in another jurisdiction, once told a friend of mine who had proclaimed that he would take similar action - "If you do that, then ring me before you ring us."

I thought Dave Cam had said we now have the right to defend ourselves from intruders. All part of the Big Society.

I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6. I've armed myself in preparation of intruders........I married a redhead :)

You just (still) need to be very careful about what you say afterwards.....

Read this CPS Statement.
