Canal bridge at Sandon - Friday Oct 11th 2013.

The canal bridge on the A5066 at Sandon seems to be closed for repairs today. There is a sign to this effect on Beaconside, suggesting that you carry on to the A34 as a diversion, but they have carefully placed this so that you read the sign after you've committed yourself to the right-turn lane - handy, that.

The bridge was cracked in the Seventies after someone threw a Party Seven at it

It's now sobered up enough to seek help

The Bridge is still intact!! What has collapsed is the culvert for the canal overflow, that runs parallel to the canal and next to the bridge, we are recommending to those that don't want to take the diversion that they drive down to the bridge and park on the Stafford side, you can then walk across to The Dog and Doublet (shoes willing and with a torch if at night)
