Higher the strength the more grain involved, so costs more. Also the fashionable hops are imported from the US, New Zealand etc now. Shipping costs have gone up.

The old school British bitters with native hops aren't very fashionable ever since the craft beer thing started.

A few years ago (2019) a group of us decided to try a particular craft beer in 'Tilt' in Birmingham; it was £24 a pint. We each tried a third of a pint.

It makes Candid look quite reasonable price wise.

Depends what beer it was I guess. If it was a triple and in fairly limited supply it might cost a bit.

That reminds me that I've not seen third pint bottles of Ansells Triple A for a very long time. I first drank one in the Swan at Whiston fifty years ago.

Most of the doubles and triples these days are trappist ales brewed by monks.
