Excuse my ignorance here but do you only need one of these if you have gas in your house? I ask because the new place I'm at has oil as opposed to gas - presumably that will also give off CO if poor combustion is occurring?

I heard on TV the other morning that BBQ's start giving off Carbon Monoxide gases as soon as the big flames have died down and it's ready to start cooking , and all the time it's cooling down the dangerous gases are being given off.

Dont risk it, boilers, fires everything, get one installed.
The best ones are the 5 or 6 yr battery life models. Install them more than 150mm from the ceiling above the doors and windows in any room with a combustion source, preferably on the same wall. If they do go off, evacuate immiediately and dial 999, advise the fire brigade of a potential CO leak
They are not stylish, but neither are coffins:stafford:
Gosh I hope the summer arrives soon..............

Just past your number on Sooty, chimney fire caused by a birds nest the lovely Jackdaws.
Called out to another job today bird fell down chimney, just take a few minutes to all check your
chimneys for any activity of nesting birds, the lady with the fire over the weekend was using a gas fire
with most of the flue blocked by the nest carbon monoxide warning.
