Christmas Trees.

I went with the good lady Melon the other day to get a tree for her house. She only wants a little one, real of course, something her and her daughter can decorate and was horrified to find the man charging £25 for a little thing no more than 3ft tall. The 6 fters were upwards of £50. Am i being the big scrooge here and can you good people suggest place for us to check out more trees?

Thanks in advance Chrimbo forumites.

The farm by the canal on Baswich lane has a sign at the gate offering 'no-drop trees', might be worth a look..?

When I was a kid it seemed like they were sold on every corner when December came. The only places I can think of are the garden centres (which probably charge a fortune)...

Lowndes (Princes St.) usually sell them, though i don't know whether they've got them for sale yet. The prices you quote sound par for the course i'm sad to say, staggering isn't it?

Unless someone knows of a better deal...

There is a strangely impressive tree in the window of the card shop opposite W H Smiths. It stands in an inverted umbrella, with the trunk of the tree where the handle would be. The inverted umbrella is full of artificial snow, which is pumped up to the top of the tree and sprayed out in the form of a continuous blizzard, to be caught in the base and recycled. Worth a look, if you're passing. I suspect that it would be necessary to exclude the possibility of draughts, etc..

This picture doesn't do it justice.

I've seen Wilkinsons have christmas trees outside in a variety of sizes. I've not had a very close look as I only pass on the way to work, so can't say if they are good quality or not, but I do remember seeing the price on one of them was £12 which didn't seem massively expensive.

Would anyone know offhand where you could buy a christmas tree with the roots still on?

The Forestry Commision place as Birches Valley does trees with roots, I think 3-4 foot trees cost £25.

I've used the Forestry trees for 3 years now; always lots of choice, good quality and you know the source (and so know they are sustainable). Our 7ft Fir cost £50

We have bought ares from the Hollybush Garden Centre for years and they are from a Yorkshire forest and sustainable. We paid 42 quid for a Nordic Spruce 7' one this year, cheaper than last.
