There was quite a bit of work going on when I went past a few days ago.
They had wedged the sign up out of their way, rather than removing it, so I would assume that it will continue as the Coach and Horses.

I used to be the landlady of the C & H millions of years ago - It was in the Till family for years - great pub at that time, lots of great characters and good pub banter. My kids look at the place with fond memories but at the end of the tenancy i was glad to go.
Small pubs struggle so much with no support from breweries.
Its great to see some small pubs in Stafford still having a go at being a real pub. The star and garter, the market vaults, the greyhound are real pubs and still have that feeling of being your local.
Any other pubs that feel like their your local?

It was described as a sports bar in 2015 when the then tenants left and still appears to be run along those lines. Don't know how many changes of landlord, if any, there have been since 2015

Is the C&H located opposite the Post House / Apothecary? If it is, i can count on 1 hand how many times i have been there. Its a place that i choose to avoid because there is a horrible smell in the backroom; always looks dirty and, in my opinion, it doesnt serve decent beer.
I wish the new tenants the best of luck, however its success will largely depend on the brewery investing in the pub.

Yes it is and I avoid it for exactly the same reasons.

Yes.
It is by far, the most inhospitable pub in town both in terms of the decor, management and pub regulars. It's a dive but at least it keeps the patrons there and not elsewhere.

Interesting review of the C&H by someone calling himself "the Great British Pub Crawl" (also on TikTok. Doing a crawl round most of central Stafford's pubs, following a visit to the Bird in Hand which he liked -
"Now, sometimes with this game, you will visit two polar opposite types of pub straight after each other and this was the way our day then headed as we wandered around the corner to the Craft Union pub called 'Coach & Horses' - this isn't one of the pubs where you will find a host of guest ales or well cared for beers... it's a 'sell 'em cheap, pile 'em high' type 'lads lads lads' boozer where a lone female entering for the first time is bound to attract a lot of (not necessarily wanted) male attention... At least one lad in there was having himself a top afternoon (certainly in his own head anyway) and his eyes were a dead giveaway (if you catch my drift) which for around 6pm is pretty good going... haha... as regards the pub itself, it's a sweet enough little building with the bar confronting you as soon as you walk in, a small dancefloor type area behind it and a small outdoor balcony type garden over looking the canal. The lady serving was pleasant and the music was exactly what you'd expect for a pub that is popular with a lot of lads who still haven't quite come to terms with the break up of the Stone Roses... "

I couldn't fault Craft Union's Pheasant in Newport two days ago, "'sell 'em cheap" being Wadworths 6X at £2.15 and St Austell Tribute at £2.40.
I've not used the Coach and Horses since cask beer was discontinued several months ago.
