The Beeb 'know' a Tory government cometh so turn into axemen. I don't have a digital radio, World Service LW for me (even/esp if it's just TMS all day), but can understand wanting to kick up a stink. Sadly i fear much of our expanded world is set to shrink through lack of funds.

I don't believe that there is any 'lack of funds' - just a lack of willpower to spend it competently.

I did get a digital radio, solely for the purpose of listening to BBC 7.

Nor do i - depending on who is lacking - just a lack of will to spend it wisely. Compare today with the late 1700's early 1800's when the rich felt obliged to finance the building of schools, hospitals, libraries etc (early onset Affluenza) as a public duty, to todays bunch of insular arses interested only in vanity projects like 'insert town/city' United.

It's a sop to the incoming nasty party to ditch 2 stations now and pretend that real cuts are being made. BBC4 will be next. Mark my words, the Tories will have effectively dismantled the entire organisation and sell it in chunks to Murdoch et al, and I wouldn't be surprised if there is a cushy job in it for Mark Thompson when the dust settles. Anybody considering voting for Cameron should be made to sit, Clockwork Orange style, in front of US Fox News for 24 hours, for a glimpse of the cultural future of the UK. Broken Britain? It's coming.....

Surely 6 Music and the Asian Network represent the very definition of the BBC remit? And axing them because they compete with commercial stations?!!! 6 Music's nearest competitor is XFM, but who wants to listen to the Killers and Biffy frikking Clyro on rotation 24/7.

If they axe Radio 6, and I found out they have commissioned another series of 2 pints of lager etc., and that Fern 'What is your favourite colour' Cotton is still employed by anyone, anywhere, I'm going down White City and I'm going postal. :grr:
