thank you for the extra replies over the last couple of days.

i had a bit of a mess about last night and i hope ive improved some of the points raised so far.

im on limited time today as im doing a fashion show this evening and have to be there silly early to meet with the other designers for their headwear choices and make sure the hairdressers are aware for the styling- but i am going to have a good read of the blog darben has posted (that may be some lunchtime reading at work tomorrow :))

cult- im really liking your suggestions too and will have to look into whether moonfuit will let me do it. i also need to work out how technical it is! lol

the next job to do is the photo galleries....that is going to be a bit of a monster!

thank you so much again, i can only re-iterate what gdavies has said, what a blimming helpful forum and how great you have all been. :)

ps. i told my friend yesterday at the fair in barnsley and she had a big old grin- she was really pleased that you all liked the skeleton she had created for me.

You site looks slick the only thing I'd change now (if the host allows) is your page titles. Below are your pages (according to Google) and their titles. The page title is an easy way to get G to think your site is about *insert search term here*. So do a bit of thinking about the services you offer. Think how you or anyone else might search for them. Do a bit of research on the search volumes and pick what to aim your titles at.

Here is a free tool you can get search volumes for different term on Google.

So perhaps (I don't recommend you use this it's just an example):

Bespoke Millinery from Imogen's Imagination // Sheffield
www.imogensimagination.co.uk

instead of:

Imogen's Imagination
www.imogensimagination.co.uk

and then come up with unique titles for the rest of your pages:

Events - Imogen's Imagination
www.imogensimagination.co.uk/events/4535173978

Links - Imogen's Imagination
www.imogensimagination.co.uk/links/4535174353

Gallery - Imogen's Imagination
www.imogensimagination.co.uk/gallery/4535174356

About Me - Imogen's Imagination
www.imogensimagination.co.uk/about-me/4535174115

Contact Me - Imogen's Imagination
www.imogensimagination.co.uk/contact-me/4535172365

It's looking very slick though and with all the Geeks on here I'm sure you'll get all the help you need.
right, after not really having done anything productive about this for a while, ive been having a go tonight.

ive got as far as the google adwords bit (there is a quick link from moonfruit to this, which is quite handy) and im more than happy to set up the account on a pay per click basis....especially at 1p per click.

but i am struggling with the changing the pages bit though, i really dont understand what page title does and how it has an impact of the searchability. i realise that these rules may be like physics, i cant understand it, i just have to accept it. im also not sure if this is something i can change.

can you offer any clarification? remember, you are talking to technoclot here and it will be almost impossible to be patronising towards me in anyway about this stuff! lol

Hi Cookie, I am very taken with your web site with just ever so slight a niggle on the typography front.

With a very ornate font used for: Imogen's Imagination, you might like to try a much more simple font for your page names. Complex and simple fonts work very well together, think: The Guardian when it had its last major re-design. IM(humble)O, people tend not to read a complex font at so small a size.

I won't wish you good luck because talent doesn't need it.

Take care....Ecker.

it looks a lot more professional now cookie i would say on my screen the contact page the colors seem to blend all to well but other than that its looking spik an spam

John Marwood

I ♥ cryptic crosswords
If it works for you it works for you

I would always want to have an actual email address and a telephone number on screen at all times

I wish you a busy 2010

thanks for the additional feedback folks, it is much appreciated.

john marwood- i like your comment about contact details and i think that is going to be something that i change. i definitely see the logic in it, thanks.

ecker- if i could remember the guardian overall i think it would be a great example! lol the reason i chose that font as it matches my labels/cards etc...but i will have a mess about with the smaller text.

gdavies- i think this is simply going to be a person to person issue, i have to admit it looks ok on my screen. i might ask for a bit of feedback from my fans on facebook as a sample group and see what responses (if any! lol) i get.

mycult- pm winging its way to you!

thank you all again,

Hi again Cookie.

I was a little behind the times with "The Guardian" banner heading. The previous design had the word: "The" in a complex italicised serif font and "Guardian" in a comparatively simple non italicised sans serif font. It was very visually appealing.

If you would like to have a look at an (admittedly small) example, please go to:

http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/02/11/award-winning-newspaper-designs/

scroll down to The Guardian and look at the second example.

I hope you find this useful....Ecker

"offer examples to clients how colours and materials can work together"

Think you might have missed out a "to show" here.

Sorry to be so pernicketty.

nope not pernicketty at all!

sometimes you spend so long trying to formulate these things that it takes a fresh set of eyes to spot the mistakes.

thank you :)
