Desirable changes to the new forum...

Put this in General rather than Tech so everyone can see it.

With the new forum (which looks great by the way) now in use, thought it might be useful for Admin if we requested / suggested changes in a thread.

For me, the very light blue dividing lines between messages on the white background makes it difficult to differentiate between one message ending and another starting. Would like this looking at if possible.

Also does anyone else seem to be scrolling around a lot more than previously?

Finally, when reading posts in topics, the messages seem to stretch across my screen a lot more now meaning I am scanning from a lot further left, to a lot further right... perhaps there is a setting I can change for this?

This is a lovely way of starting a "bugs" or a "negatives" page...

I like the new site, but personally I'd have the Stafford Forum top header reduced in size. I'm sat here on my 24" work monitor and I'm pretty sure from 20ft away you can still read it clearly.

Screen layout seems OK to me, especially when there's an avatar there to show the 'join'. I used to use 'Sulfur' on the old one, which did delineate things nicely. It does seem a bit more scrolly, though.

The 'Events' calendar doesn't seem to have carried the events over, it's just got the birthdays of the returnees, as far as I can see.

Yes, this will be very useful indeed; thanks gk141054. :)

I actually had to increase the size of the Stafford Forum header due to complaints from other Forumites during the testing phase! It used to be a lot smaller and more understated.

I'm on a 21" monitor and it seems OK to me, but obviously I am open to suggestions.

Yes, as stated would be the case prior to the closure, all private messages/calendar events/etc. were lost. The only things that got migrated were the users (you lot) and the messages (posts/threads). It was the only way, I'm afraid!

Yes, even I have found this, and have tried my best to minimise it. It's purely down to the fact that there is much more information displayed now (since we have dragged The Forum into the 21st century so it integrates with Facebook/etc.) so more stuff to scroll past.

Note that you can dismiss the Notices at the top of The Forum, which will free up a good chunk of space. Just hover over the top-right of the notice and a little "Dismiss Notice" X icon will appear. :)

Enjoying a drop of red.
Is there away of going straight to unread posts on a thread like there used to be as I can't find it?

Just click the thread title and it will take you to the first unread post. :)

There is also a tiny blue dot that appears to the left of the thread when you hover over it that will do the same.

Can I use a skin to reduce the text size? I too am scrolling a lot more, and it just seems a lot bigger...

50,000th poster!
Every thing seems to be working for me, no problems so far,
found the "New threads" OK.
Only thing is, I had "graphite" as my scheme, the page is too bright for me,
(I liked the black screen and orange writing of the first computers LOL)
Will there be any scheme's for the new forum?

Do find the text bigger than before...
But its also about what you are used to of course.

Another small thing.
Under my forum name "Fonzie-NL" there used to be the text "member" (or something of the sort)
it now shows my real name.
Could that be returned back to just "member" again?
It might be possible to change this myself, but I haven't get found the setting :P

The Forum doesn't look at all how I originally envisaged it, but unfortunately I had problems with the custom styles I tried, so this is the default look for the time being. In time it will hopefully look a lot better for everyone. In the mean time, try holding the CTRL key on your keyboard and rolling your mousewheel forward/back - that will zoom things in/out to suit your tastes. :)

Very strange! I have removed the name from your custom title now; thanks for pointing it out. :)

Many thanks Admin!!!! You are a star!
I afraid there will be more people with the same issue however.......
You're right. It seems that, for some reason, when the old Forum data was imported it transposed the "real name" into the "user title" field. I'm not sure why! :/

Fortunately, most people don't fill in their real name while signing-up to forums, so it hasn't affected the majority of people. However, if anyone else spots it happening to them, make sure you let me know!

Thanks. :)

'What's New' is showing me ten pages of threads with 'unread messages', which I have mostly actually read on the old Forum, all the way back to Feb 13th - is there a 'Mark all as read' button?.

There is indeed; top-left of The Forum, just under the logo. :)

Done. :)

If anyone else spots it, can you message me privately? You can do this by clicking on my name/avatar, the click "Start a Conversation" in the box that pops-up.

It seems to have happened to CRobo, as well - the perils of telling the truth?...

And The Stafford Beast has come up as 'Tiddles', which I happen to know is his middle name..

I have sent you a PM Gramaisc, to test the new Conversation system. Did you get it OK? It was quite a few hours ago now. :/
