I've come to the conclusion that there's only 1 person from Stafford on Stafford Forum

it is interesting that most people seem to have migrated here from elsewhere! i'm in the same boat (insert joke about migrants in boats here) - i'm from northern ireland, but moved to the mighty stafford when i was little, and have lived here all my life (save a few dark years "up north" *shudder*)..

i find the idea of people regarding themselves specifically as "english" bizarre.. i'm not really sure why, i guess because i automatically reply "british" when i'm asked what nationality i am, i assumed others did the same!

Would you find the idea of people regarding themselves as specifically "Scottish"/"Welsh"/"Irish" equally bizarre?

I'm not Welsh, because i do not come from Wales.

I'm English coz i'm from England - i'm British coz i'm from England.

yes.. as per the post you replied to, i am northern irish, but when asked i instinctively reply "british".. i find it bizarre that, when asked what nationality you are, one might reply "english/welsh/scottish/etc."..

Apparently 51% of Scottish people consider themselves more Scottish than British!
How many people were asked, two?

Never trust a poll, that doesn't have the official amount of people asked, in the detailing.

I suspect that may be a quite common (less so for the Catholics of Ulster...) response, for obvious reasons.

Have just done a little digging and it seems that roughly 70% of people in England consider themselves English 'first' (as high as 80% in the NE) and 65% of people in Wales consider themselves Welsh.

Nearly 14% of people in Cornwall consider themselves Cornish first and foremost.

When abroad and people ask where I am from, I always say the UK, but probably use english and british in equal amounts.

Three grandparents, all in there forties...

I can't be certain of course, but I'd hazard a guess that Poles have contributed more to our society over the last 70 or so years than any of that scummy lot's families will have.
