Sadly my Wife and I lost our little Jack Russell Bitch last month due to Heart Failure. She was about 13 yrs old, so She did well. We’ve looked around at various places that rehome Dogs, but as we’re Pensioners we can’t afford the prices that they charge. If anyone knows of anyone or anywhere that could help us, please let us know. We are quite happy to be checked out to make sure that we are genuine.

Sorry for your loss

Please don't take this the wrong way but if you can't afford the donation to a rescue place for a dog, how will you afford the exorbitant prices vets charge? Even just routine flea, worming and vaccinations add up to hundreds of pounds a year before any other illness or accident is factored in, and then it's thousands, or a hefty monthly insurance cost to cover anything off

If you would like a rescue dog then

Pet Welfare in Stafford
Boycies Bridge
And a plethora of organisations rescuing dogs and puppies can be found on

Thanks for your reply. We always had Pet Insurance and a monthly payment scheme with the Vet to spread the cost. It’s not so much that we can’t afford it, more that we don’t want to get ripped off!

I don't think a rescue would rip you off. They often take in poorly looked after pups and dogs and spend a fortune getting them all healthy and fully vaccinated, wormed, flead and often neutered which is an expensive business. My last 2 rescue pups cost £350 and £600, and I think that's a bargain as it also included a pet passport.

Hope you find something

If they've still got the kennels Swan Pit Farm just beyond Gnosall might have one at a price to suit you.

Sorry for your loss. Hope you find a pooch in need to give a lovely home to at a price you can afford.
I know the rescues spend lots of money on the animals in their care .But charging so much to rehome nowadays is a big outlay for potential adopters to factor in to start with , even if being able to afford care for their pet during their lifetime, and puts a lot off helping rehome many out of rescue kennels/care.

We rescued our Piskie dog from Coven , but that was years ago before they became part of Birmingham dogs home .

Further to my original message. Firstly thanks to everyone for the friendly advice. We have looked into getting a Dog from one of the many so called Charities! It seems obvious to me that if they can import Dogs from all over Europe, it must be a lucrative business. My Son bought a Dog from a Company that imported Dogs from Macedonia. They claimed that it would be fully vaccinated, wormed and treated for fleas etc. it turned out that it was just a paper exercise, and none of it was valid! It still cost him £450 to get her! Hence my reason for saying that we don’t want to get ripped off. There must be some genuine person out there that needs to re-home a Dog and would just be glad for it to go to a good home!

Safe rescue is genuine.

I got my second dog from Romania, she was found on the street by the dog catcher as a puppy with her litter mates and travelled at 5 months to the UK. She was definitely a legitimate rescue and all health checks etc were done correctly incl vaccinations, worming, fleaing and the checks for babeosis (spelling?). There might be some dodgy people out there but many are legit. Good rescues provide full rescue backup (fbu)

Safe Rescue are English but go over and select the most homeable rescue dogs at a Romania shelter PS Botosani, and Penkridge dog walking and home boarding act as a foster for newly arrived dogs from both Spain and Romania. Penkridge is the intermediary we arranged our Romanian rescue through.

Let's hope they look after their living animals better than they look after the remains of people pets left in their care
But that was a different business there.
And if they weren't you'd really be doing it a favour in giving it a new home !

It's a different culture in eastern Europe, it being normal for dogs there to live in streets rather than with families.
I know a couple that brought a lovely dog back here from Bulgaria.

I've used pet welfare for other pets, not dogs, but they seemed trustworthy. We got our dogs direct from the farms they were born on, but afraid thats pretty much just collies you'll find that way!
