Doxey Primary School

Afternoon all;

Does anyone have any first hand experience of how Doxey Primary School is? As we are in the catchment area and it is our nearest school we have put it down so at least our little one is close to his friends. I personally don't rate the school where as other people I know do think it's a good school. Just wondered if any other forumites have any first hand experience of it.

Cheers in advance

I was going to suggest you have a read of their OFSTED report, but as there's not been one since May 2013, I don't suppose it'll be too relevant. (Though I suppose if the Head's the same .....)

I'm interested to know why you don't rate the school never having had a child attend??

The school is only as good as the intake of kids it gets. If your child is well supported at home then they will do fine at Doxey. My child went to Tillington, another school that has an image problem and plenty of snobbery surrounding it in that there were those who thought that it wasn't good enough for their child. What they meant by this was they didn't want their children going to school with children from social housing :(. Like I said, snobbery.

Despite Tillington having a mixed catchment, including kids from families with multiple problems and alot of the well supported kids getting creamed off and going to Copper Perry (a problem that Doxey is also inflicted with), my daughters cohort, who are now 17, include a potential Olympic swimmer, and multiple kids who are going to Uni to study medicine and physics, amongst others. If your child is going to do well, then they will do well anywhere!!

My advice, go to the school and make your own mind up. Ignore Ofsted reports, just get a vibe fore the place. If you must rely on someone else's view then 'value added' is the most important stat.

Edit, the Head at Doxey has recently or is about to change..............

If a school has a poor headteacher, poor teachers, poor planning and poor governance all of which will culminate in bad ratings.

At the very least the children are far less likely to reach their potential and get good grades in a poor school with bad teaching.

And how many primary schools in Stafford have even one of those today let alone all of them? I replied in the context of schools in Stafford. Maybe u would be more in tune with Stafford schools if u actually sent your kids to them. And just for info, Doxey got GOOD in its last ofsted.

I think snobbery has a part to play a little bit, my eldest two went to Burton Manor and I could never fault the school once the head teacher changed over. We've visited the school today, the teacher who would be teaching our little boy dazzled us with fancy words whilst baffling us with bullshit at the same time.

One of my contractors sent his lad to Doxey, it being his local school. He got repeatedly bullied and the school did very little about it. He was moved to Burton Manor where he is now getting on famously.

The teacher who does reception at Doxey primary was previously at St Leonard's and taught my daughter in year one there. She was excellent and the school was very sad to lose them.

Remember your child will be at a primary school for a long time and many schools go through cycles.

This was about 18 months ago by the way.

As someone that went to ten schools, I would say that teachers and parents have a vested interest in portraying any school as 'good' - I would be interested in the opinions of a few pupils.

Best to drop in for a visit unannounced, during term time. Most schools will accommodate this and if they don't then...

Only you know your child and how they relate and react to things, so only you can make the decision at the end of the day, irrespective of other people's well intentioned comments or biggoted and pious preaching.

First off, I didn't imply what Doxey PS grade was I was remarking on your ridiculous notion don't trust grades/ inspections. Then you feel the need to tell me the DoxeyPS inspectiin grade is,like it does matter...I am so confused.

Stafford has a number of poor schools that have been inadequate and in special measures, it appears in the newsletter every few months (is King Eddies the latest), just as there is everywhere.

Yet to imply a school is only as good as the children is borderline absurd....so would you be saying if children with difficulties and background issues would have no hope and the school they are at is not capable of performing well because of that ???

I don't have my own kids in Stafford schools but have nieces and nephews in them. Also if it wasn't through an inspection report another relatives elsewhere in the county would have been sending their child to an inadequate nursery provision that leaves bleach on the floor.
