I'm a big fan of Dropbox - we use it quite a bit in work - really excellent stuff (and I think I've got a little over 5Gb) it has made my memory stick a little redundant.

It's ideal for sharing a few files across multiple PC's, but not great as a backup unless you don't have many files.
For a 100Gb account (which I would need for my data) is $19.99 a month - yet I only charge £10 a year for livedrive accounts which are unlimited (hint hint to people with stacks of data) ;)

Interestingly the amazon MP3 app will play songs direct from your cloud drive, as well as local ones it seems. Is this amazons take on iTunes? They also have their own app store coming soon, with exclusive apps from what I hear. No idea what they'll be, but could be interesting.

On a side note I found it rather amusing that music companies are upset that amazon haven't negotiated a license to stream music. The music a customer has purchased already, so actually own, they now want to charge to store it offsite effectively. And they wonder why nobody cares about piracy, tossers.

Get 4.5Gb free extra dropbox space, just install the new client and use the auto upload option. Install this version then insert a USB stick with 5Gb or so of media on it (just pics and vids). Use the upload to dropbox option that now appears on your autoplay and it gives you an extra 500Mb for every 500Mb you upload ro a maximum of 4.5Gb. Or possibly 5Gb, I'm not positive yet.

Also if you have ever referred someone with an educational email address you can double your referral. Go to the following website and register your .ac.uk email address and each .ac.uk address you referred previously gives you another 250Mb boost.

I'll be up to about 15.5Gb when the upload finishes.

Is it really worth so much hassle though just to get it up to 15GB ish?

For £39.95 I can give you 512GB briefcase with iPhone / iPad and android apps included. ;) (sorry for the plug)

Wasnt exactly a hassle, I just plugged in a usb with 5gb of movies on and it did it all for me.

I sync my Dropbox account to the stick on my keyring once a day just in case i need to pull the files on a pc without internet access (unlikely, but does happen), or if i'm in a duff mobile coverage area (where my family lives).

A heads up... If you download the box.net application via your Android phone and register before 23rd march you'll be given a whopping 50GB of cloud storage. It doesn't offer a sync client like dropbox, but you can't really complain for the amount of storage in one place that you'd normally have to pay for.

I just got an email from storage ninja, saying I have a 30Gb account for free. Appears to be a gift from newsdemon, new users on their top service get one but I've been with them for ages and they only just gave it me. Must be going through older accounts dishing them out, not bad at all as I only pay £4 a month for the newsdemon account anyway.

who or what is storage ninja, how do i get 30GB, and is it as easy to use/does it integrate as well as dropbox? :raise:

not loaded questions btw - i'm genuinely interested & would rather hear from a user testimonial than by JFGI

Anyone using Google Drive? I love dropbox and have no reason to look elsewhere due to great features, EXCEPT that they only give 2GB for free :(

I tried google drive, but went back to dropbox, trying to edit on google is nowhere near as easy as on dropbox mainly because dropbox uses word to edit and write, on my comp, and then saves/syncs automaticly, whereas google uses googledocs, which seems limited and slow after using word, and dont even try to use cut and paste in google it drives me mad!

If you sign up to Livedrive Backup & Briefcase via me at £60 per year, this gives you unlimited backup for unlimited computers, plus a 512GB online drive shareable between as many PC's as you want. (Plus iPad, Android apps etc)

Plus only £10 per additional 512GB on the online drive size.

i'll be honest, it will take a lot to get me to move away from dropbox.. it's on my mac, my laptop, my work PC, my HTC phone, soon to be ipad, and i share folders with various friends & family.. it's now just become part of my overall computing infrastructure/life..

Edited my previous post as I'm now doing Livedrive Briefcase accounts as an annual payment to simplify things. Still equates to just £5 per month though for unlimited backup for unlimited PC's, plus a 512GB online drive syncable between devices.

Can I ask db, what do you pay for how much dropbox space? or are you just using a free account you've built up in size?

If you ever want something more substantial in size, and far cheaper than what dropbox would charge you, then send me a PM and i'll see you right ;)
